Servicing: Like going to the dentist?

I've noticed that the only time my teeth hurt is immediately after a trip to the dentist - all that scraping and prodding does no good at all. I'm beginning to think the same about servicing the cerbie - running absolutely fine when I took it in, they have it for three days, call me back saying all is fine, I spend three hours on public transport getting there (cerbie only car) only to find I can't select any gears!!

I once had 150 miles put on my BMW after a service by a main BMW dealers.
When I went to question them they told me I had written the mileage down wrong.
Nothing else they could say really was there.

i know what you mean. I dont particualry like taking any of my motors for a service, especially when they all appear to be running fine and dandy. I have always been one of those 'if it aint broke, then dont fix it' types. My old VW Scirocco never had a service in its full 7 years of ownership, and never had a problem with it.
Still, deep down i recognise that in the case of the Cerbie, it needs to be done

I had >100 miles added when the Elise was serviced. Along with everything else they did to the car. :rant:
Now I take a digital photo of the reading next to a copy of the current day's paper before leaving the car with them.

I too had a main BMW dealer add miles to our 7 series when it went in for a repair, and it came back with different memory positions on the seats & dirty rear carpets (and we never used the back)! I now take ditital photo of mileage of all our cars before they are serviced (even the Golf).....

Christ I hope not - visited my Dentist for some small
work yesterday and have spent the last 24 hours with
opticians & at A&E ...and now have to see an eye
surgeon tomorrow as I have lost sight in one eye.
If anyone did that to my Cerbera, it would be a
out! You'll be glad to hear it will keep me off here for a bit.
Latest is they want me to stump up £500 for a new clutch (on top of the £850 service). Does that sound reasonable for a clutch? Anyone else had their clutch spontaneously expire? They've also said they have completed the work - seems suspiciously quick to me - do most places hold clutches in stock? (am I starting to get paranoid here?)

Slack pedal is the cylinders, not going into gear with a normal pedal is the clutch fingers.
Fingers are sometimes covered (in part) by WH too, so if you've got a warranty then you would have been able to claim (before the garage carried the work out without an inspection!!)
edited to add: 500 quid is cheap though - the part is 400 odd IIRC

My pedal was fine too. I couldn't get my gears also. Thats why I thought it was the clutch in the first place.
Take note on Darrens comments above. My warranty paid out towards the cost...and £500 doesnt sound bad. Check total cost as well though. Labour, slave cylinder etc..

Graham - hope you are ok mate!!! The teeth run alongside many areas of the nevous system. Hopefully smething is just trapped and all will be well.

Getting it back tomorrow. I would still like to hear if clutch fingers spontaneously break i.e. overnight, without any prior symptoms. Would broken fingers necessitate the change of the entire clutch? Was told by the dealer that my warranty didn't cover the work - will be more than annoyed if this isn't true (warranty paperwork currently in boot - doh!). Car has 14k miles on the clock - is that a normal time for a clutch replacement.
