New discs and pads on the Cerb all round.

Appear to have a heavy clunking from the rear left when driving along, stops when I touch the brake pedal so I'm assumiong it's pad rattle.

Anyone else suffer this?

It should get better as it beds in. Its the back pads rattling in the caliper. Mine did this, but eventually went.

I had this problem whe i changes the pads and disks on the BiL's car. There should be very thin shims fitted to the back of the pad. These are held in place with RTV, as i call it. It stops the pad moving about. the noise is nothing to worry about just sounds like a cart horse at low speeds!. Hope it helps

I get this all the time when having a drive for the first time in a few days. Some gentle braking tends to sort it out.

They may need bonding in as they can tend to float a little and then clunk.

Email Joolz as he may be able to sort it for you

After my last service my brakes have started squealing. Any ideas on what that's likely to be?

It can depend on how hard your brake pads are and what type of discs you are currently running with

..either way it's bl**dy annoying isn't it

It is really annoying, but it didn't do it before the service and we didn't chance the pads or disks. It's not a big problem, just gets on your nerves after a while!

It can be very annoying and esp. when you pull up somewhere and everybody looks at you for the wrong reasons.

I tend to come across it more with the harder racing type pads with Cerbera's

hmm, perhaps I'll try changing the pads and hope it cures it! It definately sounds like the rear brakes that are the problem.

To stop the sqealing, which was from the back brakes on mine, I took the pads out, and put copper slip on the back of each pad. I also put a chamfer on the leading edge of the pads. That seemed to do the trick.

I agree with KOJAK. The Bil's car used to squeel like a pig! New disks and Mintex 1144 pads all round, a good 45degree cut on the leading edge of the pads, copper grease and anti squeel/rattle shims and they are now perfect! Its a lot of work to rid yourself of a noise which some people like others hate!

Good tip about the chamfer, I'll try that as my car sounds like an old London bus when I put the brakes on.

I also get pad rattle, just seems to be a feature....

the split pins holding in the rear pads are very thin and some makes of pads have larger holes this causes the pads to rattle just made the split fit better by easing them apart once fitted problem solved
