Hi new member here, I'm a bit green, just bought my 1st Cerbera a 96 4.2.was told they had 360-380bhp and 180mph. a sun diagnostic however says 342bhp andmax speed 147 mph, any ideas why these figures might be low? Or are they just a very overrated car? It has done 33,000 miles and the service history is up to date. It's on 18 inch rims with 255x35 tyres. Was well disappointed when I saw the diagnostics sheet, nearly as fast as my Megane!

342bhp is probably about right for a 4.2 - I believe spec is 350bhp. As for 147mph, that's way off the mark - it's still be pulling like a train at that speed - My Civic's seen 150 on GPS so the Cerbie's easy good for 170+

147 - perhaps it was rolling roaded in fourth?

342 sounds pretty reasonable, only 18 off the quoted figure is OK when you consider that some 4.5's are 30-40 lower than it says on the tin.

However 147 is way off, somethings not right there, was that the figure from the dyno??

I agree with that. 342 is about correct. The 147 is low. Should be another 20-30. As for the megane...must be a bloody quick one.

Agree with that too, my speedo has shown an estimated 150mph in 4th on a track day.

347bhp, if that's at the wheels then it's very good for a 4.2. If it's flywheel bhp then it's about the norm, the AJP V8 is hardly a churned out identical production line engine.

sounds a fab figure to me .. what was the torque though? ..
147, yup that'd be the roller speed at which max power figure was generated, not the rtue max speed of the car which will be somewhere around 170 ish ..

you've got a good one there!!!

The stated bhp for 96 Cerbera 4.2 are 350 so it appears quite accurate. 147mph is shameful since Mercedes can do 155mph. The Cerbera is meant to kill a Porsche easily.

It is said that 4.5's REAL bhp are also over stated and in reality are 310-380.

Whatever the case, although I personally haven't risked the fastest 0-60 but it certainly appeared on my previous 4.2 and current 4.5 that the specs can be reproduced.

The speed is a red herring! Consider this:

a) In 5th, how many revs do you use to do 70mph? Is it less than half the revs where max power is produced? If so, your top speed could not be 140ish

b) How would the rolling road calculate top speed - it doesn't know about the aerodynamics of the car, weight etc.

Darren.

147 will be the maximum speed reached in 4th gear. Power runs are almost always done in 4th gear as the ratio is normally closest to 1:1 avoiding false readings from a different gear ratio.

A atandard 4.2 comes with 16 diameter wheels
you say you have 18's is it possible that your
speedo may be under-reading??

All this means is that when the megane was tested, it was in a gear where max power is generated at a wheel speed of about 140, my Chevy van can do that and more. Max power at 4300, 38mph per 1000, blimey it must do 160 at least The Cerbie actually can pull to max power in 5th when aerodynamic drag in factored in as well, that's why they obliterate pretty much anything in a straight line. I have seen 145 ish at Castle Combe still in 4th and still pulling.

I remember seeing something on a Cerbie site a long time ago where a 4.5 hit 200mph in Germany/France somewhere, and it had a piccie of the Speedo to prove it
