No Indicators or Wipers - Can anyone give a checklist

I needed to replace my big fuse last week but ever since doing that i have had no wipers or indicators. The strange thing is that my horn, hazards and main beam work.

I have checked the fuses and the ribbon behing the steering wheel and can see nothing wrong. I have also disconnected the battery and then re-connected but still nothing.

If anyone has any more suggestions then i would be really grateful.

I can't think of anything in common about the two circuits apart from them both having switches around the steering wheel. The usual problem with the wiper switches is the ribbon cable. To be sure this isn't the problem you really need to check both ends of each conductor with a meter.

I am not sure of the path of the indicator switch wiring but I am fairly sure it doesn't use the ribbon cable. If the hazards are ok then I guess it's unlikely to be a simple wiring problem. There are various control boxes behind both the trim under the steering wheel and in the passenger footwell. It may be worth checking these for loose contacts.

The wiring/harness diagrams may shed some light on the indicator wiring.

Sorry for the thread hijack guys but my left indicator isn't working at the minute. Hazards work fine, so was going to have a look at the switch. Does anyone know how to get `in there` where the indicator stalk goes to have a look around?

Its a poxy job. Wheel off(tag and mark all the plugs)Otherwise when you connect back up,you could find different switches doing different functions. Cowling off and inspect the micro switch on the end of the stalk. Its probably that. About £2 from maplins.

Might be worth getting your head in the footwell and looking up the steering column with a torch first. You can see quite a bit of the indicator switches. If you need a bit of access pull the hose off the eyball vent.

Doe's the washer button work? the horn and indicator signal's run into seperate pcb's before going off to the steering column ecu, would checkout all the ribbon cable's first, unplug and refit including the sc ecu, for some odd reason all the switching is done using the 0 volt line, the 12v line is common, can give you some contact's to bridge to eliminate one pcb or the other but will mean using a volt meter or ohm meter to get to the root of the problem!
