Had my 4.5 2001 for a few weeks now,(love it) it's completely standard except for sports exhaust, when accelerating at larger throttle openings it hesitates noticeably, and can be sluggish till well past 3000 revs, this was mentioned by Rob Ingleby , my question is should I go for a remap if so would a decat and or short induction be best?

Hi
I would recommend that you get the immediate problems looked at first of all. The car should be better than that out the box. I guess you need to get it on a computer - did Rob do this?
The prob is maybe throttle pots, HT leads, coil packs etc...
If you are going for a remap as you want more power and improved driveability then you should really go for decat AND short induction.
Raceproved have Joolz (King of Cerb remaps) - so worth a shout to them for prices etc

Gary is spot on, generally if you have a problem with hesitation it is down to the basic setup and anyone who remaps your car will get this right first. Hesitation usually happens because the left and right banks not in sync or appear not to be in sync, the candidates being slop in the linkage between the left and right banks, a problem with one of the throttle pots etc. Where abouts are you? As you're in the SE there are plenty of places that can sort this out for you.

Hi, i have a 2001 4.5 that was remaped & de-catted by previous owner.
It is great through low gears & definitely not sluggish.

The last owner said that the remap sorted out the continuous power delivery top end rather than low end, he said over 5000rpm it use to dip a lot, so the remap was to make it continuous.

The most noticeable improvement will be the 2000 ish revs where a standard map can hiccup a little.
The rest of the standard map should feel great, a remap just that bit better.

Down south there are plenty of places that can fix your current problem eg APM, David Batty, Austec, Racing Green etc.....

Your best plan is to take it somewhere that will sort it and remap it, like Raceproved. Joo, and any other remapper worth his salt, will run it up on the RR and check it out for existing problems and rectify those first. Your hesitation could be fuelling or timing related, which the remap would sort, but those guys can tell you for certain. I would highly recommend a remap, it improves the car in all aspects. One other word of advice is to get any other planned upgrades - ie exhaust, exhaust manifolds, inlet, done beforehand or as part of the package since these will require another remap.

Basically I would do what I did (duh) which is to take my standard 369hp 2000 4.5LW in to Joo and pick it up with a full SP (decat) exhaust, short induction, fixes to any existing problems, remap and 420hp. It goes much better, sounds incomparably better, and gives 27mpg vs 22mpg on a run. I've not felt the need to do anything else engine-wise in the 3 years since.

More food for thought..........
Getting the engine set up can be as little as £50 - £100 and can make a big difference. A remap, short uinduction and SP Exhaust is about £2000.

But without the exhaust change its quite a bit less - I posted the Raceproved price a few weeks ago (and I cant remember what it is !).

Hi Kevin, if you're as local as the Cerbera map suggests you can always pop round to me and plug it into the laptop to see if there's anything obvious wrong.

I reset my throttles and pots again yesterday and it made a massive difference to how it drove (this was I after I thought I'd nailed it last time!) lol Andy @ APM even said it drove very smoothly.

Obviously true - But if you are going to be spending a grand on a remap, then you really want it to be done with a good exhaust system, not one that you might be replacing in 'x' months time.
