As per the title really, does anyone know how often Ohlin shocks need to be serviced/rebuilt and how much it costs?

Cheers!

Great, thanks, nothing too bad then! I assume they have to be sent back to Ohlin for servicing/rebuilds though, leaving the car off the road? If so, how long is the turnaround?

Thanks again!

You can send them to me to be serviced. I am an Ohlins agent and have been working with Ohlins since 1995. Turn around in a couple of days. Click on my username for the website.

Thanks Gary - any idea on pricing?

Cheers,

Price: £80 per damper plus oil and any parts required

I think the £50 per damper mentioned above is a bit optimistic given the price of the seals and oil. Given a straight service (no major parts requiring replacement) for a mono shock, I'll do a Piston Heads deal of £70 per damper inclusive (plus VAT).

Cheers Gary - I'll keep your details and be in touch when the shocks need servicing. Is there a general time/mileage service schedule for them?

So a realistic budget would be £2,500 purchase, £500 setup, and £600 every year or two for servicing (depending on use)?

I would love to own some Ohlin's, they are the Aston martin of the shock obsorber world. Nitrons are my happy medium, but I was still advised to have them checked over every 2-3 years.

For what it's worth, I have them on mine (inc. geo setup) and I've yet to get the (new) rear tyres to spin in the dry. I've had the loud pedal to the floor many times (not in first gear mind) and the car is planted, stable and handling not scary at all. Even in the wet with nearly slick track tyres, the car felt sure footed.

I don't have the car anymore unfortunately (though will hopefully have another Cerb soon) but on the Ohlins it was absolutely fantastic to drive - though possibly more because they were knew and fully setup rather than because they were so much better than Nitrons etc.

the difference between Ohlins and Nitrons must be massive, I guess you get what you pay for.

Nonsense, 5 to 6 years is the average. Another misnomer like TVR reliability

Well mine started leaking and squeaking in a couple of years. I binned them and put Nitrons on which have been fabulous in comparison.

Y'know, my OE Bilsteins lasted 8 years and 60K.

I think that's pretty good.
(but not as good as the shockers on my wife's Peugeots which lasted 240K !! hehe)

Wow, you were so stunned by the price that it took you four years to post a reply! smile
