Checking If Car Has Air Con?

Hey guys,

I bought my Cerb assuming it had aircon, but I don't actually think it does - no change in revs or air temp if I press the a/c button! Could anyone tell me a way of checking for sure - a part that I'll be able to easily see if it does/doesn't have it?

Ifc it has an A/C button then it will have Air Con. I'm not sure exactly where the A?C compressor is located on the S6 Engine, but it will be at the front of the engine, a big thing about the size of an alternator, belt driven and with some big pipes going in to it. It probably just needs a re-gas.

Cheers mate - I always thought they all came with the a/c button even if they didn't have it fitted! I'll check out the front of the engine tommorow, would be great if it just needs a re-gas, was just surprised I couldn't hear the compressor kicking in or see the revs drop etc.

Air con unit is under the air box, the pulley clutch type part is just to the front side of the air box.

The compressor won't kick in if there is no gas in the system.

...and so begins the fun. It took me a while to get my system gas tight, but even whe it passes a pressure test the gas seems to go over a year or two. Latest find was a slightly weeping valve - they look like tyre valves in the fill up points

I have the aircon button and the button lights up etc but doesnt have the sticker and doesnt have aircon fitted. I thought they all had the button and wiring etc but the compressor etc were added if the option was ticked.

The air con unit is to the right of the alternator.

Perfect - thanks for everybodys input! I've got to replace the oil pressure sender today anyway so I'll whip the airbox off and check it out! It does have the A/C sticker, so hopefully it just needs a re-gas and I'll be set (famous last words!).

That's what I thought, and after getting it regassed, for a day I had air con, but all my gas has since disappeared again so I guess I have a leak somewhere!

Needed my aircon for the first time a couple of weeks ago, pressed the button and nothing, i assumed it wasn't working until the Mrs asked whether turning it made any difference

I heard that the early cars had a problem with ports pipes and the gas would leak out after a fairly short time.
I noticed the other day that mine does now not work so I'll have to get it topped up, not bad really because it's worked ok for 9 years now without any regas or anything else.

The one that turns is just the cold fan - the aircon is the small button just in from of that.

Guessing this is quite a popular topic at the moment with people trying their air con for the first time in a few months and realising it doesn't work! Do you need to take the airbox off to regas them?

Yes air box has to come off, you can see one of the caps (light green/blue) in the bottom left side of my photo.
2 mins to take box off, you require a 4mm and 6mm Allen keys.

Thanks to everyone - I've had the airbox off today to replace the oil pressure sender (see other thread!), and i do have the compressor etc. Where do people suggest for a regas, is a typical kwikfit type place/mobile regas company ok, or is it worth paying the extra for a TVR specialist to do it?

Haha, not surprised by that response! I used a local tyre/exhaust place to do my Audi a few months ago, and as I have family connections to them they took a lot of care doing it. I've also used a mobile guy, though his setup seemed a bit older - the tyre/exhaust centre had a high tech machine analysing things as it went, the mobile guy had a little compressor to pressure check it and then a huge tank of gas to refil it. If neither of these seem suitable, where do people suggest?

Best thing to do is find yourself a good TVR specialist , and you wont go far wrong

i use Raceproved in sheffield, they know there TVRs inside out, and i dont mind paying the little extra for a job well done
