I just had a phone call from Warranty Holdings. tHey have Quoted me £499 for 12 months cover. Last year was £399 and I was about to complain until..he told me the the claim limit is now upto the value of the vehicle not just the usual £1000 pounds.

I have a Std 97 4.2 with 33k miles on it. I had made 1 claim last year for the clutch slave approx £500 this apparently made no odds to my renewal.

It sounds like a reasonable deal to me.. your thoughts Gentlemen please...

I mean that would cover a new engine if it went pop. for the extra £100 quid I can't figure out what the catch is? The cover apparently is identical. I pushed him on the price and he said he'd throw in £300 worth of MOT cover but couldn't reduce it further. MMmmmmm

That seems rather good. However, other guys that have wanted to renew in the past, have been quoted £700...for £1000 limit. Not sure why the difference, but if its correct, then sounds good.

Not sure it ever had a £1000 limit. My first claim over 18 months ago now was in the order of £2700.

Depends on which policy you buy. With new cars, it's much higher (£3k? Unlimited?) With older cars (>3 years?) it is/was a £1k limit. They may do other policies, but that seemed to be the "standard" when I was looking.

I think it varies.
Some are fixed at £1000 and mine is set at a £2000 limit.

I just got a warranty from a company called Private Car Warranty as it happens, you can find them on the Autotrader website. It's a WHA gold warranty and it covers claims upto the value of the car which is a 4.2 with 46,000 miles on the clock.

The price £395.

My warranty is also with "private car warranty" unlimited cover or number of claims but they don't pay TVR's labour rates so beware!!!! mine was £810 for 3 years with MOT test cover so far in less than 1 year clutch and flywheel, alloy radiator and wiper motor ......... money well spend.

They obviously paid out then. May have to look into them when mine runs out.

After speaking to a kindly old gent on the phone, I've just bought a one year policy at £395, so I'll let you know how it goes. They pay £30p/h labour rates, but that can be increased if you want to pay extra for the policy.
The £395 is the online price, but I put in my details then saw that I needed the date of registration for the car to fill in the online form and left it till later to fill out. Got a phone call a few hours after that and the deal was done with the minimum of fuss. He did try and charge me £495 as it was done over the phone rather than the web, but as he called me it was difficult to make that stick

Hmmm do you really what to go with a warranty company that wants to stick you with a £100 bill for a simple phone call.
If you had to argue out of that on day 1 it doesn't bode well for your next claim.

All warranty companies try a wangle their way out of any claims. You could look at it that the fact that it took little convincing to get the online price over the phone as a good thing

That's not the first time I've done that.....sorry!

Anyway what I meant to say is that Private Car Warranty are not the comapany that supplies the cover, they are just the brokers. The warranty is actually provided by WH Holdings, so you deal with them in the event of a claim.

I'm currently in the process of having an alternater changed under warranty and I was quoted £28.50/per hour for labour by the rather unfriendly person on the other end of the phone. Much better than nothing though, I've almost made my money back within the first couple of weeks of coughing up the premium. So worth every penny really.
