Cerbera Identity Crisis!

It looks like I have one of the early 4.5 Cerbs that for some reason has been registered as a 4.2!

Did a search and I gather there is quite a few like this.

V5 shows engine as 45xxxxxx

Can anybody tell me where the engine code is stamped on the engine so I can check all is in order? It has the 4.5 induction, dip stick location etc...

Also the stainless plate under the bonnet has exactly the same engine no. as the V5 except the 5 reads 2!

Chassis no. on V5 & stainless plate all tally

I guess this is a TVR quirk

Would it be worthwhile correcting the engine size via DVLA, or will it look suspicious in terms of V5 history?

Mine's the same. Just leave it, it's more hassle than it's worth. Nearly all Cerbs between 98 and 99 will be like this I reckon.

Just make sure you tell the insurance company you're with that it's a 4.5. The DVLA will just cause you know end of problems.

Mine is also the same and I would leave it "as is" too.

I very nearly changed mine when I bought it 6 years ago but on second thoughts thought it looked more suspicious to change it.

Before buying mine I double checked it was an original 4.5 with TVR and they confirmed it was. Having now owned it for 6 years and climbed all over it the car is clearly an original 4.5

TVR never gave a reason for this but there was some talk about type approval when the 4.5 came out and TVR not having it so registered some as 4.2?????

Well I've got a 4.2 with an engine number that starts 45XXXXX

Not just limited to 4.5s up to 99 . Mines a 2001 4.5 and have the same issue. As like many here not worth the hassle to change.

Thanks all, I will leave as is. Insurance company have it down as a 4.5.

Do you know where the engine no. is on the block just so I can check?

Mine is an early 98 4.5 but recorded as 4.2 on the V5. I too was a little concerned until I saw a topic about it on here, I never really doubted it was a genuine 4.5 as it had the correct wheels, brakes, pedals etc as well as the engine of course.

It can be a lot of hassle to change the engine size on the V5 now, I think due to people changing the engine size to fit into a lower tax band. I would agree with most people on here that it's best just to leave it as it is.
