Emissions pipe work

Can anyone tell me how the emission system works on the 4.5 and whether blocking off the pipe that goes to the air box will damage anything.



I'd assumed there was some sort of flap or something in the oil separator, there appears to be no resistance whether I suck or blow,therefore is it just an air bleed? and as such it's never going to purge the bad stuff out of the carbon canister?
The reason for asking is that I've just set up the throttle bodies with a syncrometer and adjusted the TPS and reset the adaptives. The car ticks over lovely but just seams smoother when the pipe is capped !

IIRC, When the engine is running a slight vacuum is drawn inside the tubes all connected to the 4-way connector from the two tubes connected to the throttle bodies. This sucks the vapours away from the fuel tank and also sucks away some of the oil vapour from the oil catch pot.

So maybe blocking it off stops any rouge air entering the cylinders after you careful set up

I have blocked off the pipe to the carbon canister (removed all the pipework from the engine to the carbon canister when I put the new chassis on) It is now smoother on acceleration and generally runs a bit better. Certainly no adverse side effects.

In theory I can see how the system should work, in practice it shouldn't, I.e. the volume of air being sucked down the short pipe from the air box will effectively render the 8' of pipe to the carbon canister as useless. Unless there were some kind of restriction in the short pipe.....which there aint.

Thinking about it, I would have to block the pipe to the carbon canister as it could cause a vacuum in the fuel tank left the way it is ?
