strange one............

I have just been called home by my neighbour as my car alarm was going off (never heard it before). No lights flashing - just a permanent high pitched scream.
I always leave the car unlocked in a locked garage to keep the battery in good nick. Battery is newish and I used the car last week without problems.
Now the only way I can turn off the noise is to LOCK the car with the fob. Indicators flash 3 times as normal and the car is locked.
As soon as I reopen the car with the fob, car unlocks but alarm comes back on.
PLUS, even unlocked the ignition will not come on - nothing.
Battery is not flat as lights come on OK

Any ideas??

Never had anything like this happen before.

Maybe do a disconnect of battery?

PS Alarm came on this morning without anyone touching it or going near it!!

I had a similar thing on my cerb. When you open the car the alarm would come back on so we covered all of the internal sensors which stopped the alarm coming on. then locked the car as normal left it overnight and used the car the next day, before I turned the ignition off once started the next day took the tape from the sensors and it all worked again. Dont know what was wrong with it but it seems to have corrected itself, hope it works for yours.

He is in Hampshire but diagnosed a problem over the telephone to the AA man whilst in France once. Enough to get me home anyway.

Hi All

Spoke to Carl who suggests undoing the siren and then investigating further. Problem is that I dont get any ignition lights either. Can you anyone help me locate the immobiliser as I would like to do the famous disconnect, reconnect

Have you also checked the silver key hasnt been disturbed?

as a very simple start disconnect and reconnect the battery as that seems to cure most of my alarm problems, if it works fantastic, if it doesnt its taken a few seconds to do. try it u cant lose.

I have the same problem with my Cerb

if i leave the car unlocked, every so often the alarm goes off but it makes a terrible sound like its suffering from water ingress.

But lock the car and its fine.

My solution is........................

I keep the Cerb locked

It's the alarm probably. Mine did exactly the same thing and Carl talked me through how to disconnect it. You then have the possibility of some considerable time for the battery in the actual siren to discharge. Even though it was in a garage it was loud so I stuffed a towel around it as well.

Car is now running- I had flicked the silver key in desperation trying to turn off alarm and forgot to put it back!!!

Nearly 10 years into posting on here and I think I may have diagnosed something at last !

Keep us posted on how you get on, If you fix your siren id be very intrested in what you did to repair it

I had the exact same problem about a month ago. The battery is dying in the Siren.

Once it is desconnected, it may well kick back into life as it goes into its final death throws, before shutting up forever.. Replacement required I am afraid !

a replacement Siren,, or can you just replace the battery in the Siren ?

The inside of the sirens are all full of mastic to waterproof everything, so changing the battery not an easy thing - in my case a new siren and alarm recode just to make sure all was right.

Moved my siren to the boot to keep it nice and dry. Not quiet so loud but it is a lot better than under the wheel arch in all the muck.
