Tyre Pressures

Hi,

I have just purchased a 2003 4.5 Cerbera with the standard 225/35/18 fronts, and 255/35/18 rears. The tyre pressures were all over the place, can anyone suggest what they should be?

Firstly, well done on the purchase and welcome to the madhouse!

General consensus (if there ever was one!) is to start with 24psi all round and then gently experiment if it isn't right. They are very susceptible to tyre pressures, but that should be good to start.

Oh, and I probably don't need to tell you, but take it easy for a while until you get the beast tamed!!

Any chance of putting a few pics up?

Also different people tend to use different pressures even when using the same tyres. I use 25PSI all round with the same size Toyo Proxes, others use 26PSI and even higher, trial and error really to suit.

You bought it 3 months ago and made mention of handling issues at the time? It could be that you have problems due to
- damaged rims (spiders are soft)
- alignment etc needing adjustment
- suspension needing servicing / replacing
- old tyres (or new tyres needing some bedding in).

They tyre pressures shouldnt be all over the place after 3 months - maybe you have a crack in a rim?

My handbook clearly states 22 front; 24 rear - not sure why you wouldn't use these as a starting point.

The Proxes are very sesitive to pressure changes.
I put an extra 4 lbs in mine for a circuit day and the car was all over the place.

I would recommend getting them refilled with Nitrogen at a Tyre fitters. It's 2 squid a wheel and the increase in consistency is wonderful.
