My steering wheel has always felt a bit 'stiff' with a small amount of play dead centre. Recently I've found I'm constantly having to make small corrective movements just to keep the car in a straight line...very unnerving in the rain at night.
I've had 4 wheel alignment sorted recently (everything seems fine) and some new tyres.
Any ideas?

Ive got this a little bit on mine and had it on my Chimaera bas enough to fail an MOT. On the Chim it turned out to be a universal joint that had worn just inside the driver side wheel arch.

Not had a proper look at the cerbera yet but this will be the first thing I check.

I would suggest also, about checking the universal joints. I know you've had a new rack etc fitted, but i'd double check anyway.

It could also be something so simple as the carpet interferring.

Could also be a sheared woodruff key on the PAS shaft.

Check the obvious like the oil level.

hope this helps.

As your car's a few years old, it could just be that a few of the bushes are old & worn (never looked at the steering on a Cerb, but I've sorted the same problem out on innumerable Cortinas, Capris, Cavaliers, etc.)
