Going to try and remove one of the manifolds so I can get the crack welded. Anyone done this, any advice before I get halfway through and end up pulling all my hair out??

Have a good weekend all!

No chance you can weld it in place? I believe Joolz has some experience of doing this...

You can weld it in place, but depends on where it is. I would guess that if you can get to it, then if you've got the tackle, then you should be ok. It may not last though, as the weld can become the strongest part, and it may crack again adjacent to the weld.(As per Joolz)

Don't really know where it is exactly , so I want to remove it and take it to someone who can weld it (I sure as hell cant!)

I guess it may not last long, but new manifold is £300 or so, so worth I DIY try!!

I've just had my cerb serviced by Joolz, and he says i've got a slight crack on my exhaust manifold. I cant hear it, or hardly even see it, and its not accesable with the blow torch. I think mines a few hours labour, to pur right. I'm waiting for mine to get worse, then i'll replace.

indeed .. new manifolds about 400 odd pounds plus loadsa hours to fir (you need to slacken engine mpunts and lever engine one side then t'other side of the engine bay .. not a nice job, reckon on 4-5 hours for one manifold, another 2-3 for the other side if done at the same time.

welding can be a good short term measure, but as rightly said, the weld becomes the strongest point, the cracks start to appear around the weld then .. so you weld a bit further .. and further ..

all this assumes you have access in amongst the pipes to get the welding tackle though ..

Slacken engine mounts and move engine about! Maybe I wont be trying this then. Thanks for letting me know before I got carried away tomorrow, I'll leave it to a professional!

I think that would be my answer to the problem...unless as said..you can get to it with the tackle.

I can't really see the manifold with the airbox on to locate where the noise is comming from and find the crack. I guess running the engine without the airbox/airfilter on is a bad idea??
