I think im going to treat myself to a Cerbera as a birthday present in a couple of weeks (7th Aug).

Its a car ive always wanted, and well, due to circumstances that exist, theres no time like the present.

Am i absolutely bonkers in looking at spending 10-12k on a 97 4.2 AJP model?

More importantly, has anyone got one they are considering selling in a couple of weeks?

I'm upto about Page 17 of the older threads, doing some digging on what others have done etc.

Only in so far as they do a 4.5

Cue all the replies about there being little noticeable difference.

Yes you're right, there is little difference.....but the 4.5 has more tuning potential if that's of interest.

The 4.2 is suppoesdly a better balanced engine and picks up well.

But as will no doubt others say, buy on condition condition condition....but obviously the colour combo's that appeal to you.

Drive a few where possible and don't be hasty unless its cheap, but beware, pepes have bought cheap before and found the reason why later and have landed up spending more than the difference....perhaps they land up with a better car after all tho ???

So nothing wrong with a 4.2....yes I have a 4.5 but then I'm lucky and have an even more bonkers car for the track....hmn....with a 4.2 in it

Hi Gary - Excellent! I bought my first TVR as a birthday present - 9th August curiously .

Nope not bonkers imho.

I do have a 4.2 Cerbera in Imperial Blue. It is a gorgeous car. Not sure yet whether it will be ready for sale within your timescale, but if the colour is one of the ones on your wish list, then let me know (it's quite a purple blue and a truly beautiful colour for a Cerbera.

It's a good one - I would have been able to resist it if it wasn't!!

If you want to spend a little more, get and get a 4.5 lw with tuning issues sorted, new front end respray (a deer broke the gel coat), sp12s, intrax suspension and some other bits and bobs I might be selling at the end of Aug..

i had a chim for 3 years now ive got a 4.2 cerb had her 3 weeks still got the silly grin,
i looked at 4.5 and 4.2s both are mad you will never look back ,i would say i looked at ever car i could ,LOOK CAREFULLY at all the cars in your range ,talk to the owners ,real tvr fans (owners),. will chat for ever about there car what they have done how much they have spent.car histoty is good but nothing comes close to a man who has grease under his finger nails,
look hard, take your time,looks are not the best thing to go on,they go like pole dancer on heat, good ones ,but the nice looking ones go fast sound good but kill you quicker!!!! or cost the earth again and again. go to a few pistonhead meets or tvr meets and talk to the other mad owners.

With regards to the 4.2 vs 4.5. I dont think im too fussed, it wont be tracked and it wont be tuned. Will want to keep it fairly original.

Maybe prefer a 4.2 for insurance purposes.

I've messaged a few relevant guys here already, so thats great.

Can you believe ive never been out in one, only my mates Chim and my Uncles 350i Wedge.

Never mind it sounding like a hairdryer, it'll make your DC2 Integra feel like it has a hairdryer under the bonnet!

Be careful if you get one, the DC2 has half the power of a decent Cerbera, it's a massive step in performance.

Don't think it'll make a difference, my 4.5 Cerbera and 4.0 Chimaera are within about £10 of each other on exactly the same policy terms.
