OMG - What on Earth am I doing !!!!

Dear All,

Failed miserably to extract the Master Cyclinder lower mounting bolt so took an idea from M3J to cut a hole in the inner wing to try and get a spanner to it from there.

Drilled the pilot hole with no probs but am attempting to cut a 'socket'-sized hole with a serated circular hole drill and have hit Kimberly diamonds.

I've tried to have a closer look and I fear that I can see metal under the fibreglas where I'm drilling.

Does anyone know what's under here and if it is safe to continue ??

You shouldn't need to cut or drill anything to remove the clutch master cylinder.

You will need a helper though.

One person under the bonnet and one in the footwell (one holds the bolt and the other loosens the nut).

Putting the pipes back on is a pig of a job alright but the physical job of removing and replacing the master cylinder shouldn't be giving you this much grief.

As Ireland rightly says, you shouldn't need to cut a hole. Ther is a big metal box under there so cutting a hole in it would be a tricky job anyway. If you cant get a spanner onto the bolt, use something like a big screwdriver or prise bar to wedge the bolt in place while your assistant undoes the nut in the footwell.

Always remembember that it was fitted without a hole and so should be extracted without a hole.

What i did was not like this sir. If you look at your picture below that i've drawn a yellow outline on you'll get an idea as to where i made a small incision in the inner wing. I'll emphasize the small bit though as you would pretty much not know it was there unless i pointed it out to you. It is only just enough to aid the shaft of a spanner.



If i were you i'd fill the hole you've made (with maybe silicone) and try my method. Remember measure twice and cut once ! As JensenA as said, these were put in without a hole there but mine was not moving for love nor money hence the `slight alteration` made from me.

I did manage to do mine on my own but it was a struggle if i'm honest so, two persons would be a lot easier !

My poor baby must be regretting looking so horny when I went into David Gerald's workshop all those years ago
