Help please couple of questions

ouple of questions for you knowledge able people.

Firstly, i removed the steering wheel and boss to investigate the reason behind the steering controls no working and found the ribbon cable not even connected, with no plug on the end which explained why i wasn't getting any voltage readings from the 8 pins.

This being the steering wheel pcb


This being the end of the ribbon cable with no plug on the end to attach it to the pcb, where can i get the connector?


Was surprised how long the ribbon cable is.

Second question, both drivers and passenger side footwells are wet, the carpets having soaked most of it up are now drying on the washing line. Have people experienced any leakage around that area before. The down pours of late have been very hard so can excuse if its only an occasional thing, i know the window seals are the greatest with having frame less windows, any one have any idea where to start looking,. The wells are dry near the pedal box and ecu on the passenger side, and get wetter towards the front of the seats but bone dry every where else.

Third and last for now. Newbies got to love them. Guide me to the path of righteousness.

What is is, looks to me to be some sort of oil line that is discounted couldn't see the other end. Braided hose and cable tied to an other braided hose that goes into the drivers side wing?

Any ideas people.

I'm no expert, and I can't help with the steering cable, but the carpets sound like a dodgy door seal. If the carpet is dry near the pedal box, it doesn't sound like you are getting a leak through the bulkhead, which is quite common if some of the silicon sealant has rubbed away or not been applied vigorously. I know the search on here is poor, but there is a master lists of leaks to work your way through - one of the more organised members will have sensibly bookmarked it unlike me!

The braided hose looks like the clutch bleed hose...

Think i've sorted the ribbon cable, new one at £34 with the ends on it.

Clutch bleed pipe, good good

just the leak to sort. If someone has a list would be great.

A list of water ingress points on the front offside on the Cerb.

1. The grommets which the throttle cable, water temperature capillary tube brake servo hose pass through
2. Clutch master cylinder cover
3. Pedal box securing bolts
4. Brake master cylinder reservoir bolts
5. Bolts securing bonnet stay rod bracket
6. Oil pipe union
7. Scuttle panel securing riv-nut
8. Brake block mounted on toe board
9. Grommets in floor pan
10. Bonnet release shaft
11. Windscreen
12. Bolts securing bonnet lock bracket
13. Door seals
14. Steering column bearing
15. Indicator side repeater

And the nearside footwell........

1. Wiring loom grommet or multiplug connector on early cars.
2. Grommet for wiper motor wiring
3. Wiper motor securing bolts
4. Expansion tank bracket securing bolts
5. Heater pipes
6. Battery tray securing bolts
7. MAP sensor pipe (barometric pressure pipe from rear l/h airbox)
8. Rivnut for scuttle panel
9. Windscreen
10. Door seals
11. Grommets in floorpan
12. Indicator side repeater

and as for the rear nearside & offside

1. Seat belt securing bolts
2. Door seals
3. Grommets in floorpan
4. Rear screen

Had the exact same problem with water ingress, sorted by getting new door seals from Racing Green, now all dry and cozy.

think i'll start with some new door seals, given the area that the water is sounds like it could be, feel a bit of a spending spree this month to get the car in the best condition.

Have a look at the door seals at the bottom where your feet would cross. I found there was a split on mine at that point and with the door shut and a hosepipe squirting at the door I simply traced the flow of water to that point as it entered the car.

Thats what i plan on doing, supposed to be tipping it down tonight so am going to put a cover over the passenger compartment,

yeah just a bit, totally different car and totally different experience. Just need to get it up to scratch and i will be happy, body shop visit hopefully this week to remove a deep scratch, order all the bits i want to fix bits and bobs, sort water leak, sort steering wheel buttons, and a good detailing
