Misfire, fast idol & overfueling a bit...
Discussion
Morning guys and gals have a quick one for you all.
First off the Cerb is bak on the road finally and apart from some small jobs to do it's pretty much complete now.
- I have a slight misfire that i'm having trouble finding. Now i have the correct leads on the coil packs to the correct plugs. Any pointers for me on this?
- The tickover is a bit on the high side (around 1500 rpm). How do i go about reducing this?
And finally...
- It seems to be over fueling a bit. Is this down to the fast idol? If not how can i go about rectifying this?
A couple of pictures after i threw a bucket of water over it last night for the first time in 3 months :

My god it's good to have him back !

The miss fire and overfueling could be the lamda's back to front. If you have the software
reset and look at the adaptives, if one bank is all 0's then they're back to front.
Ps, don't actually remove and change them over, just the plugs to them.
Ah cheers Nick ! A simple check that i can do once i'm home from here. I'll give it a go and see how i get on.reset and look at the adaptives, if one bank is all 0's then they're back to front.

Beautiful Cerb.
Are you sure you have a misfire or is it just running a little rough? I only ask as there is a bar at the back of the throttles that adjusts balance between banks, we've had this out of balance before and it caused all sorts of mad idling/ rough running. Another thought is that from the sounds of things it hasnt been run properly for a bit - perhaps with a flat battery/ low power at some point? If so, we've had rough running before from that too, against what you feel like doing, a full italian tune up does sort it. We did about 6 0-115 runs - all the way to the change up beep in each gear - first run felt awful, sixth run the car felt like it wanted to take off!! Astonishing difference.

Not too sure if it's either / or / both to be honest. I know the bar that you speak of, do you think it'd be best for me to totally release this so the throttles close fully the attach it loosely then tighten once i'm happy with these balanced?
To right it hasn't run properly for a bit. SEE HERE TO BRING YOURSELF UP TO SPEED ON THINGS. Will have to give it a few hundred miles (500 ish?) before i even think about poking the beast with a stick.
Battery is defiantly fine as it hasn't been attached to the car and i gave it a trickle charge over night the day before to initial firing up. M3John said:

Ah, sorry, I hadnt seen that - I've been away for 3 months (2 months in the US/ briefly back here then 2weeks or so in Spain, life is hard sometimes!) Bloody hell that looks like alot of work/heartache! To right it hasn't run properly for a bit. SEE HERE TO BRING YOURSELF UP TO SPEED ON THINGS. Yes, with the bar you're looking for balanced slight openings IIRC, as long as they both match up either side - this is a very long shot, I think our car is one of few to ever have this problem! I'd check the pots first, then check this...
The italian tune up happened after we left the car for a windscreen for a week or so, the battery was flattened by something (alarm going off? cant remember) and when we picked it up it ran awfully... I remember thinking "this is what its like when it needs a rebuild" - I was convinced it had gone. As I said before though, it was absolutely fine after a thrash, and 60 odd thousand miles later (90something now total) its still screaming through the revs with ease.

The drill for balancing the throttles and adjusting the linkage is in the Engine section of the workshop manual.
The only thing to watch is that the throttle stop is on the drives side bank and the throttle cable is on the passenger side, which means that if there is excessive play in the ball joints you can get everything looking in sync with the throttle closed, but as soon as you open the throttle they are unbalanced because of slop in the linkage.
You can get new ball joints form Ondrives (details in the alternative parts thread) but when I did that - the new ones had almost as much free play as the old ones. I ended up putting M5 rose joints on the linkage and now have perfectly synchronised throttles.

Oooooo forgot to update this guys. Misfire is still there and the fueling issue is still apparent but Dan Taylor is hoping to slot me in for half an hour one day this week for that.
The fast idol i've sorted by shortening the length of the throttle linkage.
I had a similar issue, with the car misfiring at about 2000rpm lambda's we're working fine, problem was caused by a crack in the off side manifold, whipped manifold out welded crack no more misfire. The fast idol i've sorted by shortening the length of the throttle linkage.
