Bought a 1998 4.5 on Saturday, and have had a constant grin on my face ever since. Am taking it on its first long run at the weekend to Lancashire and for the first time am actually looking forward to the 4hr journey. Hopefully the fuel consumption will be a little more conservative than it has been the past few days!!

You'll keep the grin all the time.

Glad to see you're 'in the car' now; I noticed you couldn't get in the boot the other day.

On a run, you should get 22/23 miles to the gallon, assuming motorways.

Nice one Graham *what a great name!

Enjoy the drive and as Kojak69 says, expect 22/23 to the gallon.

Just checked my usage last week and was surprised to
find it the same, if not better
than the 4.2.

I also tkink the reverse is true around town.

Tip for anyone heading north up the M1, Junction 15, about 1 mile towards Northampton...
cheap Optimax which your wallet and car will love Mmmmmmmmmmmm

It's about 5 - 6p a litre cheaper than at junction 17.

22/23 to the gallon,i get about 18 if i'm lucky.Do you take it out of gear going down hill??.
I normally get about 22 on long trips, but I have 277 on the clock with
just under 1/4 tank left after yesterday's motorway use.

Excellent news for me with Le Mans looming and the 250 mile Calais Le Mans leg.

If you only use the car on short trips, I think the 18mpg would be the case,
other than that...I think you have something wrong there.

Really? I just about manage 260 to a tank. Maybe I should swap my steel toed boots for some nice leather driving shoes (well the right foot at least anyway).

No idea , but trust me I wasn't hanging about.
Shaved 40 minutes off the 'standard time' for the journey.
