Sports exhaust and Decats - too loud?

My cerb has a sports exhaust with cats at present.
One of the cats is disintegrating - previous owner has tried to stop the rattle by screwing self-tapping screws through the CAT outer case
The plan was to buy a new cat or to fit decats and keep the old cats just for MoT time.
But would a sports exhaust and decats be just too loud?
It bangs and pops like a good one with cats so I dunno what to do.
A std exhaust and decats a better proposition aurally perhaps?
Any suggestions?

How much do you use the car?
If you use it daily then you'll get fed up of the noise pretty soon.
However if you only use it occassionally or for short journeys then you'll love it.
Two examples .....
I went from here to the South of France with sports pipes and decatted and I knew it was the wrong exhaust set-up for the journey shortly after leaving the boat in Wales.
It was a long, loud journey shouting at my passenger all the way.
However the same exhaust set-up sounded superb for local hooning or in the Dublin Port Tunnel.

I've been running sports exhaust & decats for about the last five/six years and not really had an issue with it, including several round trips around Europe. However, my car is running an Emerald ECU; when I put the MBE with the original map back in it was like a machine gun going off on the overrun - which I think would have got rather tiresome.
I personally don't think my set-up causes too much noise pentration into the cabin; people following do say it is loud though.

I guess it all depends on which system you have fitted as to how loud it will be without cats.
My car came with a single straight through silencer per pipe as in the photo and no cats.
Inside the car the noise was reasonable, however my wife said she could hear me for miles, plus the neighbours would say things like 'you left early this morning'
I fitted a new system as below.
This has three straight through silencers per pipe, certainly a lot quieter outside plus a deeper sound.
I now get a booming sound inside between 40 and 70, seems to be a resonant frequency??
So, I'm hoping to fit some cats to see if this will help.
You are correct in that the ebay specials are 400 cells/inch and we need 200 cells/inch (sports cats).
These guys do after market cats at a reasonable price.

I'm also running sports back box and cats. Noise tested at 105 / 106 Db.
It's plenty loud enough, pops and crackles like a good 'un, but is bearable on longer runs - although you do have to raise your voice to have a conversation with the passenger at "motorway speeds".
As other posts mention - if you are planning to use the car much - you'd probably be better off sticking with the cats. Another factor you may consider is whether you take children in the back as speaking with Joo (ex TCS) he had mentioned that when running around with the windows down (complusory with a Cerb!) there is a low pressure area that can suck noxious fumes into the cabin. No real issue with me, but a factor I considered with using it with passengers.....

I have had every combo. The best compromise is standard decatted.
My previous car was sports and decatted PLUS different cone filters. That was too loud, probably the loudest AJP ever on the road - I stuck with it as I enjoyed the attention. Previous cerb was standard and decatted. Perfect for everyday etc..
Now that I am even older and greyer I am sticking with my current set up of sports plus decat. It isnt too loud. I assume that this particular sports exhaust just isnt very loud. I have a standard back box in the garage, might try that sometime.

I have a pair of linked decat pipes, supplied by Joolz when he was running TCS, that take the place of the cats for the remainder of the year. (Two pieces of straight pipe with another pipe linking the two).
