Vibration under braking.....

I presume that when I get a vibration when I brake hard that it is most likely the disks...

The car is a late 2000 4.5, how hard is it to identify which disks I need, get new ones and then change them..?

Or should I be looking at something else?

First check should be Drag link bushes

The discs are the first thing we all blame whan we get a front-end judder but they actually are more likely to NOT be the culprits.

Many of us have found out the hard way that often the most likely things causing the problem are loose / worn bushings and loose / worn / bent suspension bolts.

It can often take quiet a while to figure out where the worn part is and may even involve taking virtually all the front suspension apart before you find it.

Had my discs skimmed recently and am still getting the vibration under braking - although not as bad as i used to but still not good. Whatd'ya think, drag link bushes then?

i changed my discs (at great expence)and still had vibration then changed drag link bushes and its now perfect and only £35 and an hour to fit

I brought this up a fortnight or so ago.

I took the advice from here to replace the link bushes and bingo all sorted!

I had this. Warped disc. I 'braked' it off in the end, if there is such a thing

Mine used to do this, but only from cold, standard discs and red stuff pads. Was fine once heated up.

So, when driving and using the brakes, how can I diagnose this?

I think I dont really notice it at low speeds... I don't really get a throbbing in my foot when I brake very gently.... (if you get my drift). Alas no real chance to check high speed hard braking on my way in today..

I had this vibration issue on mine a few years back under braking - I did change the disc's and problem solved. 1998 4.5 at 33k miles.

Oh, forgot to mention, we had them skimmed a couple of times, always helped, but never cured it... new disks did. Then new calipers around the 80k mile mark made the brakes even sweeter. They're pretty phenomenal brakes when 100%.

i found it very easy to do but i have a press if you can borrow the use of one you can do the whole job in and hour press out old bush i used a 15/16 socket to press it out ,a bit of greese in the sleeve and the new one goes in by hand,one bolt in bush end and one in the other end when new bushes are in fit "top hat" spacers from old bushes job done ,NOTE if you get the same polly bushes as me from racing green then it comes with a big washer i only used this in the press and then it went in the bin as not needed yours may? HTH !

Don't get distracted from the real problem, it's definitely not a fault with the ABS!

Anone have a picture of the drag link, is it possible to get a replacement with bushes already in it (I had a lot of bush pain when I did the 1600M).

Had trhe same prob with mine but after a few thousand miles of progressive braking the prob dissappeared. Subsequent conversations suggested that the car had been previoisly left for too long with the pads resting (pr pressed) against the discs which produced a build up of crud. Don't know if that was true but she pulls up smooth and straight some 38K later
