Had to put 95 RON in my Cerb the other day as was running out of fuel and stopped at a station with no 98. My M.I.L light has come on. Is this related or just coincidence? It was very wet that day, so thought it could be water in the electrics but leaving the car to dry out doesn't seem to have helped.

Would a fuel additive help or am I stuck with draining the tank and starting again?

Is your's a red rose? 95 is standard for the "normal" Cerbs, It hought, even though we all use 98.

I wouldn't have thought that the fuel rating would have brought about a MIL incident unless you had something else not right...

You need to connect up a laptop to the ECU - the diagnostic software will tell you what fault has been logged. To be honest - anything else is just guessing.

There's a sticker by the filler that says 98 only on our 1998 4.5, for what ever that's worth.

APM Andy told me I'd fine using 95 in an emergency & I have with out incident a couple of times (although I wouldn't go filling the tank with it). So I'd guess unlikely to be the cause of the MIL also, but as stated there's only one way to find what has caused it....

Interestingly the Cerbera handbook specifies 95 RON.

Its a std Speed 6 and the manual and sticker by the filler cap does state 95 RON. I'm going to take it in for diagnostics next week unless I can fix it myself. Does anyone know if the diagnostic connector/software is easy to buy/use?

My 97 4.2 stated in the handbook that the engine had been designed to run on 98 and a sticker next to the filler cap would complement this. If it says 95 next to yours then can't see there would be a problem. Good luck in sorting it.

The software is available free from here amongst other places. You need the appropriate lead depending on your ECU connector, most of them just use a standard 9 pin serial lead but some have a 2 or 3 pin lead. There are a plethora of threads here as to how to get it all working.

Thanks everyone for responses. I'm new to Cerbera ownership (first week) and I'm really impressed with the threads and rapid responses.

Started her up tonight and everything is back to normal. Clearly I need to find a way of keeping the water out. Not sure if a boot full of water is avoidable - I understand they all leak to some extent.

Took the kids out for a spin and the smile is back on everyone's face...

The don't all leak - at least mine doesn't - It lives outside!

If water is finding its way into the boot it is almost certainly coming in round the petrol filler neck. There isn't really any other way in. You need to look at the fit of the filler and the gasket under it.

Check the seal around the boot light switch. L/H side on mine near the filer cap

Don't park in a nose down attitude, water pools up and works it's way past the join
in the boot seal.

If your lambdas aren't sealed properly from the wet it will cause the MIL to come on. Appartently common a S6 Cerbs.
