Wes,

1. Oily smoke coming up through the gear lever gaiter is likely to be engine oil being burnt on the exhaust manifolds.

2. The fact that there's lots of oil on the outside of the engine isn't any indication of head gasket failure - but shows an oil leak!

3. A miss (and low power) could be due to any number of reasons, however, I would start by checking or replacing coil packs and leads and getting the car plugged into the diagnostics to see what's going on.

Good luck

ontop of what I said in the other thread. Missing can be caused by many many things, coil packs & plug leads are known weak spots. A 1-2 hour job to change both banks DIY & £200 in parts. You'd probably want to get it on a ECU reader to ensure everything is ticketyboo on the diagnostics. Sebring won't have let the car out if it wasn't setup correctly, but it's not to say a TPot or something hasn't gone haywire in the interim.

Oil leaks are commonplace. Check your breather pips & clear if gunked up. This will help. Where leaks occur, normal practice is to remove the panel, apply sealant, reattach panel. The AJP engine does not use gaskets on most seals, just glue, so if you don't line the seal with gasket sealer properly / it decays, you get leaks. An oil leak is nothing to do with HGF.

Rule out, plugs, coil packs, ECU diagnostics etc.etc.. before condeming the gasket, but if its using coolant and you cant find a leak be suspicious. I was suspicious, hence buying a new expansion tank & cap (sometimes the caps can leak), but it seems my suspicions were well founded. Here's hoping you have more luck and it's nothing major.

If you aren't too far from sebring, take it back over and ask them to look it over, there is a chance they may not have sealed a cam cover 100% on reassembly, but they shouldn't have had it off for a 6K service. Give them a chance to look at the car, see if they think it's anything they could correct FoC (due to an error, mistake), or if not, what the cost will be. I'd go as far as to say there is zero chance of them purposfully letting a car go out without OKing it on the computer etc.. and being 100% happy with it, or explicitly telling you about anything they weren't happy with, so don't be hard on them, work with them to sort it smile

If youre burning oil (thru breather ) then you may just have gummed up spark plugs, that would fit with running fine after service when i assume the plugs had been replaced.
