Smell of Petrol

Went to the Cerb last night to get something and when i opened the door there was a strong smell of petrol the same went for inside the boot, I have had a few problems with the tank breathing properly, i.e a wooshing noise when i open the filler cap, or the tank making a sort of clanging noise after being sat for a while after a longish drive, but these rarely happen. I had recently filled the tank and wondered about this and the combination of the breather pipe (is there such a thing?) not working correctly have causeed the smell inside the car. Also the there is no smell of petrol outside the car or under the bonnet. also how do you take the helmet holder out so i can have a look behind it, this is just more me being nosy though than anything else. I'm a bit scared of breaking it. Thanks in advance.

To remove the helmet holder......take a look in the boot above the petrol tank, right in the centre. There will be either a wing nut it an M6 nut. Unscrew it, then from inside the car just pull the helmet holder out, it's sort of wedged in so will need a good tug.
