Hi all, I've got a 1998 4.5 Cerb with sports exhaust and decats, but a little concerned about the power output, I've read that they can be as low as 330 BHP!!! Whats the best way to get it upto 400BHP, I don't want to spend a fortune getting these horses back as I've got a 400BHP XKR and wanted something a bit more lively biggrin

Thanks in advance

You need to take it to a tuner such as Raceproved who will look it over, put it on the rollers and discuss it's current state with you with a view to liberating the ponies. Tune/remap will make a huge difference, unless it's been done already, and is highly recommended to get the full fat Cerbera experience smile

If you dont want to spend a fortune, your better off getting it serviced and put it on a dyno and see what its BHP is. You may be surprised

Then go from there.

Short induction pipes and re map is the norm for a 4.5, some big gains have been seen from this

So do you know what your bhp is? Is it driving badly?
First thing to do is get it onto a rolling road to discover what it is, preferably from a known person, Charlie at Surrey rolling road, joo ( forget where he is now).
If I'm honest I don't notice the extra 8-10 % I gained as it was quick before and is quick now, but the drivability and experience was greatly enhanced from a mapping session.

They can be lower than 330bhp!
Get it to a good indie and get it set up well. Ideally get it to Joolz at Raceproved and get it on the rolling road to see your benchmark. A proper set up will probably unleash 380 - 390 ish I guess. A remap and short induction will take you to 400 + (but will start to cost more £'s).
If you are used to a lardy old XKR then a 380 bhp cerb should feel much more lively than the jag.
If the rest of the car is in order (suspension, tyres, brakes and chassis) then splash the cash I say.

He's spot on - do this. Took mine from 350 to over 400 and made it a much smoother drive.

A significant amount of the gain can be from moving from a badly set up car to well set up one.

As others have said, getting the engine set up correctly is critical on the AJP as it's a flat plane crank, unlike your Jag V8 the AJP is basically 2 four cylinder engines bolted together and 'they' need' to be set up correctly and balanced. Have you had the car for long? It takes a while to realise that the old Loud pedal travels about twice as far as any other cars, and it needs pushing all the way down to fly biggrin.

Some dynos are considered generous. The benchmark dynos are charred willies at SRR or Joolz at Raceproved.

And this whole topic is dodgey and what do I know etc....
What you want is a well set up cerb as opposed to bhp chasing which only costs money. But it's fun!

I had my Austec bhp checked at charred willies and the Austec RR was 3bhp more, not the wild differential of some RRs from the distant past. I doubt Raceprove's RR will be bang on SRRs.

And Gaz, have a rofl for charred willies
