Water temperature gauge

Hi all, my gauge seems to no longer works, is it fixable or do I have to buy a new one.

Hi Nigel

The water temperature/oil pressure gauge is a nightmare. The capillary for the water temperature is a sealed unit and cannot be removed from the gauge itself. If your gauge is not lifting off the stop it's most probable that the capillary or sensor is punctured somewhere. The gauge/capillary unit has to be removed/replaced from the dash as a single piece, it does not split to allow easier removal. The sensor end screws into the water pipe below the large fibreglass panel at the front of the car under the bonnet. The sensors have a habbit of seizing so an overnight soak in Plusgas or WD40 may help with removal.
There is a company called Speedy Cables who I believe supplied the gauges originally. This company can sometimes repair these gauges but turn around time can be ages.

If the worst comes to the worst, they are available here at a shade over £250 with £100 being refunded on return of your u/s gauge, should it be suitable for refurb.
