Lights switching unit

My head lights are ill. They work on side lights but I can't get dipped headlights. They switch to main beam and blind all the oncoming cars but when dipped......blackness. I am guessing that it's the switching unit but have no idea how to test it. Any ideas.....please.

I have just had exactly the same problem with my morgan, turned out to be the column stalk which had a broken connection, in my case the other functions of the stalk were largely unaffected.

The morgan stalk is from a triumph dolomite! I expect the TVR source was equally exotic!

The other option which I investigated initially was a dim/dip module, known to be fragile, but in my case this was ok

Forgive me for stating the obvious but are your bulbs ok?

Check the dim dip unit in the boot on sited on the top of the tank. Usually the power connectors have burnt out and need to be replaced.

The conectors are fine and yes the bulbs are good.
I still think the swiching unit its faulty but just don't know how to test it.

If you're getting main beam then the lighting control box is fine. The problem will be with the dim/dip box, which is usually towards the driver's side.

If the connectors look good from the outside (pull the connector off and have a good look), unscrew the lid and have a look inside. The output connectors will almost certainly have melted or burnt and not be making good connection.

Usually people cut off the existing connector and fit decent new spade connectors or solder the wires direct to the board.

mine have done the same ,the connectors on the dim/dip have burnt out so i have bought a new box (not that readly available)did not think about just replacing the connectors

There was just one line on mine shot so I soldered directly yo the board and put a bullet connector in line so I could still will remove when required.

Did it 4 years ago and it's been fine ever since.
