Cerbera buying Guide
Discussion
Hi Guy's
This is my first time here so hello to you all, i'm just about to buy a Cerbera, the AJP V8 is my engine of choice due to reliability concerns with the Speed Six. So I thought I would ask you guy's for your opinions as to reliability of AJP V8 engine and areas of concern to look out for when buying.

There has been a few similar posts recently so it might be worth doing some searching.
Buy on condition rather than age and mileage. Regular use seems to benefit these cars. Apart from the crank on some early models, there are no major issues with the AJP8 providing it's been well looked after and the correct warm up procedure adhered to. Service history is important as is chassis condition. The early ones are now 14 yrs old so are susceptible to rot.
Clutches last around 20k and cost 1k to fix. Servicing is every 6k with a big one every 12k.
Although you've said you don't want a S6 engined car, I wouldn't rule one out that has had a rebuild.

I wouldn't make any assumptions based on age, the (outsourced) powdercoating on the very early cars is generally regarded as very good. It went through a rough stage when TVR started doing it themselves, and then picked up again towards the end of the production run as they learnt how to do it properly! No real rules though, just check carefully.
Best advice as someone who has just gone through the process, is check the chassis over good and proper with the use of a pit or a 4 post ramp. I was fortunate enough to arrange with the seller to view the car at its MOT, so had a thorough chassis inspection myself.
My question of the very same is a few pages back in this forum.
