I worried about buying a £10k Cerbera if it had been £5k I might have forgiven much more.
£5K if it is running has got to be worth a punt.(I am checking down the back of the sofa
), a secondhand engine os going between £2.5 and £3k and some people I phoned whilst searching for mine were asking £3k for a broken one.
Can anyone lend me £4.9K?

there was a cheap cerb (yellow one sold my one of the usual scrappies on here) that was sold as a good un but the unsuspecting buyer found that it needed £20K to sort chassis, interior, lx and engine. So he got shot and took a hit. Not saying this is the same , just an extreme example.Gazzab said:

Whenever I see these sub £10k cars I'm justed tempted to snap them up, stabilise and stick into storage.
If I had the space I suspect I would have already done this.
I wouldn't dismiss a car on price alone myself. It looked shiny and obviously had had full paint at some point, why. As a 96 car there's a fair chance the chassis would be in better nick than some (most) later cars particularly the 98/9 era ones. Someone may have got a bargain, it certainly was worth a look and if bills are kept under 5-8k then there should be no real loss. Lets see what comes out of the woodwork in the near future as the posts come in..................

Engine nackered - 2.5k to put right yourself, 5k to have a company do it for you.Chassis gone - £500-£3k
Suspension needs rebuilding - £500-£3k
Brakes need rebuilding - £250-2k
New tyres - £500
Best case I'd say that car will need about £2k worth of work, big portion of that will be tyres, other bits will be things like metal water pipes rusted through, clutch seals, brake seals + change of all fluids, fuel hoses will almost certainly need changing too.
Worst case - £15-20k to get it back to perfect condition (full rebuild).
