Brake Fluid Level - Important Warning to All

As some of you know, my brakes dumped fluid our of a rear caliper last week. Another story, but apert from stripping the paint of my alloy, I had negligable brake effort and no warning light.

I do check fluid once in a while, but until now it has only needed the slightest of top-ups to account for pad wear.

The important part here is that I tried to seperate the float switch from the plug and it would not budge. Eventually forced it apart and found terminal non-existant. Just a mess of corrosion, that could not be otherwise spotted.

I wonder then how many people take the trouble to switch ignition on after topping up the fluid, and test to see that the warning light goes on and off? I've certainly never done it, and doubt it is ever checked on service

A bit like testing emergency door release, it is worth doing before you need it in anger.
