Someone just today chipped in their lovely looking 4.5 for a Merc at a dealer in West Sussex. I was there looking over a 530d M and he pulled in with the Cerb.

Well it put me completely off my stride and had me comparing sensible diesel wafty Germanic automatic saloons to growly non-sensible British super GT. You only live once I was telling myself within about a milli-second of being told that the dealer would be putting it up for around 10k!

I wa completely clear in my mind that the Beemer was what I wanted after 4 weeks of dithering. Now I'm all indecisive again!

What was he thinking! 10k seems cheap for a 4.5. Obviously depends on condition.

Or the dealer just wants shot of it. It wouldn't be something that they would usually deal with.

Well I'm no expert, but it looked very tidy from the outside.
About 60k on the clock with a redish interior.
I'd have bought on impulse alone!
It's at Tempest Cars if anyone's interested.

Well, as this car is just down the road from me, and following the recent Spa trip my brother is now looking for a Cerb, I might have to pop down and have a look smile

Popped in to these guys once before, nice bunch although the car I looked at that day was overpriced for what it was.

Beware when you go in as the speed bumps are killer!!!!

Why is it so cheap when interior looks so good and the pics generally show a great cerb. I dont believe a trader would give any car away. So I guess the history, engine and/or chassis need a good look?

Mainstream dealers are scared witless of stuff like Cerbs. I guess he made his money on whatever it was px'd against and now just wants it gone quick.

Exactly its a guess - if it was a good un would he not just trade it on?
I would look carefully but it does look tempting.

It could easily be a 20k car

10k to buy it and 10k to put it right.

i think any one whos looks to buy it should have it inspected first. a floorless fibre glass body ( which all TVR s have ) can hide a lot of faults.

but as Gazzab said,,,, it does look very tempting

Right, curiosity got the better of me and I went and had a look/drive this morning. In 6 1/2 years of Cerb ownership, this is only the second Cerb I've ever driven.

Bear in mind over the years I have spent quite a bit getting my car 'a goodun'. Also, I'm no mechanical expert and any buyer should get it inspected, as said.

Car had to be jump started as it had sat since Saturday. Not a brilliant start hehe

Paintwork is fair to good for a 12 year old car. Some parking chips, and some stone chips on the front, but overall not bad. Some kerbing on the wheels, but certainly no worse than mine.

The car has half leather (mine if full leather) and the plasticy bits look plasitcy (notably the dash), but I guess no different from other half leather ones? That said, the leather bits seemed to be in good condition. The seats themselves seemed to be thicker/plumper than mine, but for some reason not as comfortable. Generally the interior seemed fine, if a little dated?

Car has the purple pipes that have seen better days. It actually ran sweetly up to 6,500 rpm, then it seemed to hit a flat spot. I'm guessing short induction and a remap would cure this. I'm pretty sure it doesnt have the full compliment of horses as it wasnt as quick/zingy as my car. The clutch felt heavy compared to mine, but it worked, albeit with the occasional notchy gear change (although this could be attributed to this car not having the Leven pedal extensions and me being a short arse?).

The suspension felt a little squishy, but then again I am comparing to my INTRAX.

8 previous owners, most recent only had it 2 months. Apparently the wife hated it and made him swap it for a CLK AMG. Tons of paperwork up to 2007 (servicing from everyone from Joospeed to TVR Centre and lots of indies in between, and all/most previous MOTs/V5 slips/tax discs). Last service invoice @ 54k miles, car currently showing 69k, although the guy said it has been serviced since, but the garage didn't have any paperwork. 10 months MOT on it. Car was originally supplied new by James Agger. Didnt see anything about a rebuild (only flicked through the papers) but engined sounded/felt OK.

Photo evidence of a recent (in the last 2 years?) body off chassis restoration by a TVR indie (didn't see the invoice, as I said, only flicked through the papers). Looks to have a fairly recent exhaust.

So, probably needs remap/short induction and possibly new suspension. Someone capable might even consider a retrim (apart from seats)?

The really bad thing about this car is that I have the funds (although Mrs Fubes would kill me) and I am sorely tempted to buy it and put it in the garage over the winter scratchchin

Please, someone buy this before I get myself into trouble hehe

HI,

I remember this one being up on ebay recently (I remember it because of the reg - I have C16ERB). Looked OK and the owner had taken care of it. Looking at the old ebay advert it has had some recent work done:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cac...

From the link:

Up for auction is my Cerbera which I've owned for the last 18 months. I used it daily last year, but this year it's not getting as much use so it's time to move it on to a new owner.

These cars are not for the faint-hearted, especially the 4.5 V8. In my ownership, I’ve had the following remedial works carried out:
Replaced clutch plate, slave cylinder and A/C belt (TVR Centre)
Body removed and outriggers replaced by PowersBody Shop -fully documented in photographs
Alternator replaced
New front upper wishbones x 2
Replaced L/F wishbones x 2
Replaced lower rear wishbones x 2
Replaced upper rear wishbones x 2
Replaced front discs
New track rod ends x 2
Gearbox mounts x 2
All wheels refurbished and balanced
Speed sensor replaced
New Lambda sensor
4-wheel wheel alignment
Power steering rack reconditioned, reset geometry on front
New coil packs x2, high tension leads and spark plugs
2 x new Toyo tyres on rear
New Battery - 27th July!

Could be a bit of a bargain.

Tim.
