Hi,

Has anyone removed the water temp gauge before, who would be able to quickly explain how to go about it.
I have tried to search on here for any advice on how to remove the dash to get the water temp gauge out but cannot find anything on it.

Any help would be much appreciated, a step by step guide with pictures would be amazing :-)

remove the lower steering rack cowling, then there are two wing nuts that hold the pod down at each corner, one near the fog light switch and one above the light switch, remove them and carefully so no to mark the leather as the studs are fixed in the fibre glass of the instrument pod. lift it up and pull towards, might help lowering the steering wheel position. then the instrument plate is held in with two screws.

Hi Jason

The water temperature/oil pressure gauge is a nightmare. The capillary for the water temperature is a sealed unit and cannot be removed from the gauge itself. The temperature gauge/capillary unit has to be removed/replaced from the dash as a single piece, it does not split to allow easier removal. The sensor end screws into the water pipe below the large fibreglass panel at the front of the car under the bonnet. The sensors have a habbit of seizing so an overnight soak in Plusgas or WD40 may help with removal. Be very careful not to break the capillary if it already isn't as replacement gauges or repairs are costly and repairs have a long turn around time.

Why do you need to remove it, is the gauge u/s?

Regards
Simon

The capillary was seized and snapped on attempted removal to fit new stainless water pipes (the old ones rusted through and sprung a leak).
So hopefully we can send the gauge and capillary off for refurb. Thats if we can get it out alright.

I take it the capillary will have to be pulled through the bulk head then.

When the oil line is disconnected how is best to seal it to prevent spillages, or will it not leak when not under pressure?(Obviously wont be running the engine while its out, but have heard someone has done before :-))
