im on my third tvr now but always fancied a 4.5 cerb, as title suggests i currently have a tam and wondered if anyone had experience of both and what i could expect going to a cerb. from what i can gather the 4.5 is pretty safe compared to speed 6 or early 4.2 but i assume still has some issues to be aware off? i have my eye on a blue one in the cambridge area which is currently on ebay but having dealt with james agger in the past would rather deal with someone like him again, so any thoughts and advice much appreciated.

I think that's a bit like saying, "I'm going to keep a funnelweb spider as it is the least deadly of all the deadly spiders!" biggrin

also dealt with James for my cerbera this year. very helpful. you won't be disappointed with a cerbera. the cerbera i got was an 04 4.5lw and my first TVR and its great. I've just gotten a 4.7 grand Cherokee for use over winter and whilst i can do the diff bushes on my cerb i can take my time and do the handbrake paint the diff and anything else i find.

I spent time just looking through here and on the net trying to find everything else on here. Since your coming from a tvr i'd say you know what your looking for.

I've purchased my first TVR in March, after a long search and tons of Piston Heads forum reading decided the 4.5 was the way forward. Mine's a 1998 model (upgraded Tuscan lights) and it's truley amazing the power delivery is instant and tunrs heads everywhere - prob due to the exhausts!

If I purchased one again, i'd get another 4.5, but I'm sure there is an army of Cerb owners who'll also say they love there S6 and 4.2's

For me I love my mine and wouldn't change it for all the tea in China.......

The ebay Cerbera does appear to be worth a look.

Ebay one looks a bit cr@p to me - service history has a few long gaps with no service, there is no mention of any additional work (should have had tons done over recent years), owner doesnt seem to know much, unoriginal light conversions, no mention of chassis... Tread carefully.

That's a fair point re the advert, I would second that - if the chassis was fine, then you's say so??

If I sold mine, I'd be shouting frm the roof tops about my chassis as it's rock solid - although I did cost me over a grand to get it to where it is now.

No harm in asking a few questions though.

yes noticed some gaps in the history, he said he changed the lights himself on a recommendation from a member off the cambridge meet so sounds like he has been attending those? having never even been out in a cerb its still early stages for me but when i sat in one at a dealers the clutch seemed really heavy, are they all like this on the cerbs?

No definatley NOT - The clutch shoudn't be heavy if it is I suspect a clutch change required.

I bought mine with a heavy clutch, a week later no clutch censored

I had the clutch/slave and master cylinder replaced and it's totally transformed the clutch feel, it's as light as the throttle pedal and if I was to buy another Cerb that's what I would expect from now on.

Hope that helps....

I've had a T350 and a Tam before I got my 2003 4.5LW, I've got to be honest and say that I'm not enjoying the Cerb as much as my 2 previous TVR's!

I'm really missing the 'chuckability' and 'litheness' of the T350 and Tam, I find the cerb is trying to be more of a GT and I just don't feel as connected as I did with my previous TVR's.

It's still a fantastic car, but IMHO it's a very different beast to the lighter more sports car TVR's.

The only advice I would give is to go and try and do a few miles in a Cerb.

Fair point that replacing it may result in a lighter feel. However don't necessarily dismiss a car just because of a 'heavy' clutch. I found mine to be heavy at first but it had a clean bill of health upon inspection and three years later it is still going strong, of course I do now have a freakishly large left leg...

Same here, 10 months later, my clutch is still working fine, indeed it feels slightly lighter since a 12k service, fortunately my left leg is no bigger than before, mind you my left testicle is now massive

Ah maybe I was wrong, perhaps my left leg just wasn't used to a clutch as I had an automatic for 5 years before I bought my Cerbera laugh

I think you'll find that most Cerbera owners have two large testicles, there may be something amiss with your vegetables
