Exhaust heat shield

Whilst dismantling the underneath of the car today parts of the heat shield are either missing or flaking, has anyone replaced theirs, and what material have they used. I take it if i drill the rivets out and lower it down that the existing material will be able to be removed. or would a new one being made from stainless sheet and new heat shield material be a good idea?

Recently did this on mine. I had the engine out, prop shaft off and exhaust off, but you should be able to do it by just taking the exhaust off.

Just drilled out the old rivets, ripped the old stuff off, sanded down the old glue. Measured out a piece that was perhaps 1-2cm too big on all sides. Put new stuff on by first applying glue, and then as the glue sets I riveted the "top" of the heat shield. Then glue the sides, trim the excess and rivet it back on the car. I took extra care to make sure I got the edges as neat as possible as I didn't want the fibreglass strands to start to fray and then start a fire!

If I was to do it again I'd prefer to 'dress' the edges, perhaps with something like: http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/temptapettape-3727-p.as...

I think it was approximately 1m x 0.5m, but I just bought a metre squared as I figure I could use the extra elsewhere (for instance you could fold over long strips, sew a heam and then you have new thermo-sleeving for wiring).
