Sorry as I am sure that this has been done to death but as winter is upon us again I thought it would be good to actually see at night rather than aiming left of on coming traffic and hopeing that there is nothing in the way!!

I do not want to change the looks of the car so I am thinking HiD bulbs, but which ones. A mate as high/dip bulbs in his lotus, when on main beam the dip beam is still on as well and they are like day light, I would like to do this as well but don't know which kit to buy to do this, any pointers appreciated.

The search engine is back on - try searching Xenon in the Cerbera section.

Get some before and after pics posted up if you can, I have not seen a 55w kit working before.

We have HID's in our standard lights - they work brilliantly, to the extent that the TVR has hands down the best headlights of all of our cars (two smarts - one brand new leccy car, one mazda mx5, one BMW 120d)

Will do but before will be well sort of black really, after hopefully will have some sort of illumination going on.

I live in a hilly area and so am often getting flashed by other road users as my HIDs are blinding them. I have the later lights with retro fitted HIDs for dipped. They are great albeit I hate waiting for the next flash from other road users. They were OK'd at the MOT re alignment.
I often find myself blinded by other cars with HIDs but rarely flash them.
I suspect that the oiriginal lights will not control the beam pattern well and so you may be likely to blind other road users....?

I get blinded any time theres a tall car/van sat behind me at a light! Range Rover's are bad as they have HIDs also!

I wonder how badly the standard headlamps would dazzle others even with a little scatter as the car is so low..

I have never been flashed and the beam pattern (including 'glare') is exactly the same as with incandescent bulbs. After all its just point light source in the same place relative to the reflector all be it a little brighter. Why would it be any different?

I did pick a low colour temperature setup so that it isn't very blue. Its just usably brighter than the candles that it replaces. Whether it is technically legal or not without self-levelling and headlamp washers, it has passed the last 3 MOTs without even a raised eyebrow.

hehe was thinking more along the lines of a picture of your old lights switched on and then some with your new lights switched on.

If gruffalo's original lights are anything like mine were - it is fairly hard to tell if they are on or not...

Probably worse, drove up to Rockingham for the PH trackday the night before, spent the whole journey steering slightly left of on coming cars and hoping, that was enough for me 100 miles at night and was shattered.

Last winter I used her every day it wasn't snowing couldn't see a bloody thing then either so it is time to upgrade.

Strange thing is I do get flashed at night sometime by oncoming traffic, passes MOT every time so adjusted OK, think a Cerb is just so low that the slightest bump send the candles I currently have for headlights straight into the faces of on coming drivers.

I have the Standard single round lights on mine, fitted with an HID kit, and I have never been flashed, they work perfectly on the Cerb and are a massive improvement on the standard lights, and I mean massive.

I have the standard round headlights with Philips Vision bulbs but with the wiring switched by relays directly from the battery.

I did my first significant night driving over the weekend down unlit country lanes since I upgraded the wiring and I can confirm that even on dipped beam the lights were excellent.

I have to say though, I have HiD lights on my Golf TDI and they are without doubt the best headlights I have ever used. Even better than the quad halogen lights on my old Triumph Dolomite Sprint smile

Here's my old thread here

Cheers

Any recommendations for the HID kit to go for, H4 style. I think some of them go dark for a second when going from dipped to main?

I think the 'going dark for a sec' can be sorted by snipping a certain wire on the dim dip relay.

I too at tempted by HIDs as I'm so used to them from my last 2 cars, though they were projector headlamps and worked well.

Whilst on the subject, I know you need to remove a wheel to remove the bulbs, but are they easily accesible once the wheel is off?

Cant remember which kit we have, it was done ages ago. The difference is astonishing, I'll try and get a picture, but its easier if you can imagine two giant bluish white lightsabres pointing out from the headlamps and joining together to create perfect daylight a few meters ahead. hehe

Worth 200-300bhp in the dark, easily. Never been flashed by another car or had issues with MOTs etc... One of the best upgrades you can do on a Cerb, short of driver upgrades and re-wiring IMHO!

Go for the 55w Pro Max. Some will say you can get identical kits on eBay for half the price, Iv'e seen some and they may look the same, but they are different, it's your choice. but the HIDS4U kits are quality kits, it's your choice - 3 years on mine and I have never had any problems.
