Picked up my new toy at the weekend, I can't ride it in anger yet as I still have to pass the test, but took it down a private road and bl••dy hell this thing shifts, I'm new to 2-wheels and I'm sure that seasoned veterans will tell me of better bikes, but this seems like a good start. It only has 115hp! 
Now to get ia second set of panels and have them resprayed to match the Cerb, Purple with orange stripe.

Yep, that's right. She's a fine beast and beautifully cared for. I could tell she would be missed... I think it's your duty to aid and encourage him finding a worthy replacement 
Ducati is lovely bike - as mentioned not the fastest or most sporty - but you will love the V twin engine (feels much more "organic" and alive than an inline 4). Even though my ZX12R is like a ballistic misile - I love riding my Aprillia RSV-R. I may be going a bit slower - but it feels so much more involved!
Riding a bike makes you a better car driver - learn to "read the road" much more, surface changes, manholes, avoid white lines in the wet etc etc.
Even though I love my Cerb, and it IS a quick car - bikes will leave virtually any car for dead! But there again, it's nice to be inside a car in the rain!!
Take it easy at first - especially now that the roads are getting that greasy film. One of the best ways to bond with your bike to to take it on a trip - even for just a couple of days. Pack light, wrap up in multiple layers in this weather (lots of thin layers much better than a bulky jumper) and head off somewhere with good roads (e.g. Wales, Scotland, or hop on a ferry if possible) and get some miles under your belt. You will find that this will help your confidence to gow imeasurably - can't beat just getting out there and riding. Also - conisder taking advanced instruction - there are some very good value for money Bikesafe schemes ran by many councils (1 to 2 days training with Police / IAM riders - sounds a bit dull but will really help your observation, riding positioning, awareness etc) or condsider some 1 to 1 tuition - it will really help you to learn to ride, not just to pass your test.

Bought the Cerb after dropping my GSXR on diesel for the third time in a year.
My knees might now outlive my shoulders
For me, the Cerb is everything a car can be. It has a staggering performance - for four wheels - BUT the utter body-wrenching limit of physics that full-throttle acceleration on a sports motorcycle gives you cannot be superceeded by an extra two wheels.
Perhaps my capability is too limited

The 190 in the S1000 feels like it can't all be put through the rear wheel. So god only knows what 500 must feel like.
