Hi All,

From a bit of idle PH Classifieds surfing there seems to be a lot of circa £10K 40-60,000 mile 4.2/4.5 Cerberas about at the moment, most of which look pretty decent and at worst fall under the heading of rolling restoration with the usual bits and bobs. The only thing that worries me is what is parts availability for the AJV8 like at the moment? I don't want to get stuck in a position where I have to have various engine bits fabricated with the associated downtime whilst it's done.

I'm no stranger to TVR having body off'd a Chimaera, S and a Griff in the recent past as well as working with them on a fairly regular basis as part of my job, in fact it's a very nice Chimaera that's in our workshop at the moment which has made me start browsing the classifieds again!!

I now await the PH TVR Massive telling me a 10K Cerb is a fantastic idea and couldn't possible need more than £2K a year in the kitty for running costs wink

No real problems for spares, often see full engines for sale as well.

AJP* is a very strong unit so I would not say that would be your worry, electrics and chassis condition more likely of concern, all fixable though.

With the TVR specialists that are around now a days, parts availability shouldn't be a concern.

If the worst does happen & the supply of parts dries up, there's always the LS option :-)

It is if you don't want a Cerbera. The AJPV8 is the heart of the car and is what makes it unique.

+1 it is a Cerb put an LS engine in it and it is no longer a Cerb simple as that.

Probably going to be another one there soon, but it wont be available to anyone who wants to put an LS in it... wink

Not an LS hater (love them, want a T480C soon), but the AJP Cerbs need to stay that way, farrr too many good ones being taken apart for LS conversions at the moment.

My advice, by a known car, with known history and at this price point, with known issues made clear.

I dont actually believe they'll stay sub 10k for that long, these are one of the greatest British sportscars ever produced, its only a matter of time before the collectors/ world takes note...

I looked at a few around the 10k mark, but in the end paid slightly more for a decent almost original 4.5 (tuscan light conversion) if you see a good one for £10k grab it!

although chances are you will shell out on little niggles that will soon add up.

Thanks for the feedback chaps. I shall go and get one purchased. Main concerns were things like tappet shims, bearings, cams, timing chains etc. etc. everything else I can have fabrictated pretty quickly if it's not available but those sort of things cost time and money.

I will update you with what turns up on the drive smile

It'll be staying AJP as well but may well have an ECU change for one with a few fancy features.

I think the difference between the good ones and bad ones is becoming bigger. Mostly I think we're seeing Cerbs that have either been well looked after going for top money, or those for sub £10k generally being the ones that now need fuel lines, suspension rebuilds, chassis work, bit of interior work, etc.

I agree the difference between good and bad TVRs is getting larger. However, there is nothing wrong buying cheaper and putting the time and effort in to bring the car back up to scratch.

This is what I have done, but despite fixing all the niggles I still look for bits to do to make her even better.

I guess when the time comes to sell, the car should be back in the 'higher price' bracket.

All IMHO of course wink
