Unfortunately not any power upgrades, buts the small things that keep us happy right? biggrin

Anyway, just got the car back from the TVR Centre for some new anti-freeze, mk2 door seals (very tight, the windows struggle to wind up to the top when closing the door! need some silicone grease on them!) and a new oil pressure/water temp gauge. Its the last one thats the interesting one.

I've been worried about the innaccurate temperatures readings I've been getting lately from the 'TVR' gauge and when Martin mentioned they do an electrical gauge I was interested to hear more.

Sorry for the poor pics, but here it is. Its got a black face but a white face is available it would have just been too much of a wait and I'm impatient biggrin

Obviously being an electrical type it does away with the capiliary tube and has other features such as the flashing red warning lights for low pressure/high temperature. In traffic when the fan(s) kick in it even gives you a battery warning when voltage dips too low biggrin

Just had a look online and it looks like this gauge, looks great in the light.

Looks good, how does it compare to the readings on the old gauge?

How much did they charge to fit it?

Were they able to just fit the later seals or did they need to change how far the windows dropped on door opening?

Hard to compare the temp readings as ambient temps were in the minus' last night, and when I dropped the car in they were in the 5-6'C range, but in traffic the new gauge reads about 82'C before the fan kicks in (cooling chip fitted - set to kick in at 84 for the first fan), but the 'TVR' gauge was reading around 94-95 and would hit 105'C at times which was about 15 degrees out compared to the ECU reading.

I'll check how much it was, but don't think it cost too far north of £200 fitted.

As for the seals, they didn't mention any need for adjustment, so I assume they were just a straight fit. Its great though, before when the car was parked on a sideways incline the door facing up the incline wouldn't pop open and you had to help it along, now it pops out nicely! Just need to test the new seals when it rains now and report back smile

Any noticeable improvement with wind noise? Mine has the early seals and, no matter how I adjust the door, I can't quieten the wind noise down rolleyes

Not really lol! I was hoping there would be, but theres a large amount of whistling from where the air goes round the wing mirror. But I don't think I get that breeze from the bottom of the door anymore!

With the later seals I'm sure I heard that you need to get the later window control unit because it contains slightly different parameters to compensate for the thicker seal. Maybe wrong though?

The new gauge looks good! Interesting to hear how far out the standard one is!

Interesting point about the later window control unit. Anyone else able to shed some light on that? Seems ok so far apart from them being slow to close. But hopefully the silicone grease stuff will rectify that.

From the quick search I've just done it seems the later window control box drops the engine down a bit more to compensate for the thicker seals. Couldn't find a lot about it though!

I'm guessing you mean window rather than engine? lol. I can't see how dropping farther down would make any difference? I thought the only reason it drops is to clear the wind deflector, and maybe on the later cerbs the updated deflector is bigger and requires more of a window drop rather than because of the door seals?

Not driven the car since, and its under its cover at the mo but when I've used the car a little more I'll keep you posted on how it goes with the thicker seals.

Thats good to know as i fitted new seals to mine and it didn't really make much of a difference to be honest !

The window control box doesn't determine how far the window drops. That is determined by the position of the microswitch inside the door. I have been told that the difference in window boxes is that the later window box provides a higher current to the motor to push it past the thicker later style seal.

That said, I change the door seals on my car without changing the control box and have had no problem at all. I just keep the seals well treated with Einszett "Gummi Pflege Stift".

mines an older car and i had the seals changed after i bought it to stop the leaks. i never had the control box changed. had to adjust door open/close switch and just keep the seals lubed up with some rubber friendly lube spray from halfords but thats more to try and stop it freezing up in the winter. it does make the windows go up and down easier/faster too.

i have a mk2, and recently changed the door seals, passenger window shots up with no resistance at all yet is seal good, drivers is slow and pressed against the seal. although the drivers side is still letting in water somewhere

You might want to expand your search a bit. Might not be the door seal itself. Have you checked around the brake reservoir, Clutch master cylinder cover or bonnet lock pin mount?

i have to a point but as you have said i do need to check more. door seals where done and solved the problem on the passenger side. but need to do more. When i feel better (man flu) i'll investigate more.

the carpet is wet up the side of the foot-well right hand side right near the top of the door seal, so have concentrated on that area, have looked up inside the dash at the point above and can't feel any dampness.

Just an update on the door seals. Got some silicone spray from halfords today and the windows slide up and down with absolute ease. They go up much farther than before so hopefully they will make a damn good seal. Going up further than before also means there very little (almost no) wind noise around 70-80mph .

Just a £3.99 can of halfords own brand stuff but that 'back to black stuff' is full of silicone and will probably do the same job if you have some lying around.

It does leave a bit of residue when you first spray it but the excess will probably wear off amd it should be fine after a while.

Edit: just checked the car and the excess silicone has dried up so it now leaves no residue on the windows but the windows still slide up and down very nicely smile
