The hand brake seemed to go an extra notch, then went all the way (oo'er missus) the next time I used it. It was bad enough before, but now does absolutely nothing - looks like the cable has snapped.

Anyone know how big a job this is?

About 3 weeks after getting our car, we had what I thought was the same problem. BUT, it turned out to be the pick-up points for the hand brake cables had snapped off !!!!! Was a 1st for Walldonway (they had never seen it before), but a warranty claim later (and some re-welding of bracket) & all was well again....

I'm afraid I have no idea of price, but I know it's not an easy job as you have to either work round the g-box, or take it out to get to the handbrake !

Mine went like that also and it turned out to be the bracket above the diff had bent allowing the cable stay thingy to come off. You can find it if you jack up the car, take off the rear wheel (passenger side probably) and follow the cable towards the diff.

Joolz managed to fix it by bending it back and reworking a couple of washers. Then all welded in place and voila, one working handbrake again.

Cost was a couple of hours labour as all the heatshielding and some ancillaries have to come off for access to be able to weld.

Out of idle interest, what do people actually use the handbrake for?

I've never found a reason to use the handbrake that the gearbox won't do better.

I leave the car running while I open/close the garage and don't want the car to roll away on the 'flat' driveway.

Well, ours sort of works & is useful for hill starts (means you don't roll back as far when jumping from brakes to accelerator)...

The drive use is another good one though.....

I usually use mine to hang the take-away on, but just cannot get out of the habbit of pulling it on when I park up - old habbits die hard.
