Aircon or no Aircon?

The aircon on my Cerb doesn't work, condensor is holed so that needs replacement at least and realisticaly it'd want all seals etc. replacing once that's done to ensure it is gas tight. I'm quite tempted just to strip the lot off and dump it though!

The aircon compressor looks an afterthought hung over the front of the AJP and I could fit a catch tank in a treat where the compressor sits.

Thoughts? Unbearable in summer or just open the windows?

Personal choice really. I have Air Con and always use it in summer, and I wouldn't be without it. 80 on the motorways for hours on end is a bit of a pain with the windows open all the time. It seems a shame to junk it all just for the sake of a new condenser though (£130).

Cerbs can get very hot in the summer

I personally don't use mine much, I keep the window open most times apart from when it's raining, then air con can come in very useful. If you sell the car it could make the difference between a sale or not.
You will find out that £130 is bugger all to spend on a Cerbera so with it possibly being that cheap you may as well get it done for when the summer comes along.

It's not even slightly about the cost of the bits!!! It's really about making room to package a proper catch tank solution in where the air-con compressor currently mounts, plus it'd be nice to have the TVR logo on the front cover visible

Resale isn't an issue as I'd just reinstate the aircon should I ever sell it and a buyer think it was a deal breaker.

I'm more interested in if they turn into an unbearable oven without it, I'm driving it to Ascari in Feb so don't want to bake on the way down/up.

Not owned mine over a summer yet, but I really miss A/C for demisting windows! Mine has it but also doesn't work.

I've done 3,500 miles in mine over the last 12 months and i would say that the aircon has been essential on about a dozen occasions, however its only my weekend toy - as said previously though, high air temp plus the heat radiated via the transmission tunnel can make it close to unbearable at times

I can live without cold air but for clearing the windscreen it's quickest and most practical.

Mines got air con but i thought it was rubbish the day i bought it so just open the windows & it hasnt been on since that day & owned the car for 4 & a half years now.

But when reading up about cerbs before i got mine it was recommended that its better to buy one with it because of the temps inside the cabin in the summer & it does take an age to demist the windscreen in poor weather.

Had mine for 4 1/2yrs too without aircon and it does get very hot and sweaty inside in summertime traffic queues and misted up in the mornings but removing it does allow airflow to get to the rad easier. It could be said, it's better to have it and not need it rather than to need it and not have it.

Heat transfer to cabin in hot weather,would be 'orrible. Spend and stay cool!

Mine has it, but it has a leak. I keep meaning to get it sorted but never get round to taking it to an aircon specialist. I suspect this would indicate I'm not that bothered about it.

I have only ever needed it on one trip - to Le Mans in 2005. It was 40 degrees and my aircon kept switching itself off. But tbh in those extreme heats it was a bit rubbish anyhow. Cool balls and sweaty back.

Generally a decat and windows open is going to be fine. I always have the windows down anyway, so aircon has limited value as warmer air is coming in.

I wouldn't be without aircon on the cerb. More than paid for itself in the summer, especially at Le Mans on many occasions.

It's a sauna in there in the summer without it if you get stuck in traffic.

And without tempting fate, mine is remarkably good (oops, that's probably blown it!!).

Each to their own, I guess....
