jump starting a cerb

Tried to use the cerb christmas eve but the battery was flat, it had been sat a few weeks and the weather has been very cold so to be expected really.

Any way before i try to jump start it is there anything i need to be aware of? will it be a pain with the cover thing in place?
Also it will be worth getting a new battery in the new year, is there a particular one i should look at getting?

I've jump started without a problem, but then the voltage wasn't that low, the car was still turning over, just really slowly (<11v). I just hooked up the jump leads to the +ve terminal and the -ve went to the aircon compressor and I let it sit for a minute to bring up the float charge a little before turning it over.

Worked fine Have jumped it 2-3times now, though it now stays on the trickle charger over night because of the cold weather until i can be bothered to replace the battery.

Jump starting can fry electrics, if you can charge the battery try that first maybe.

I have jumped a few times. As said let it sit connected for a few min before starting. Air con for the new....

Can you explain why? as I don't want to bugger up something. Never had a problem before.

There have been a few reported problems of control boxes etc frying when jump starting. I assume the explanation is overloading ampage?

I have also heard of it cooking the wiper park switch some how and it wil almost certainly be the death of your battery, they don't like a high charge rate from flat.

Much better to trickle charge it for a few hours and then up the charge rate however I have been told more than once to keep the charge current below 6 amps with the ingition off or run the risk of major damage, as I understand it some of the compenents used in the keyless ignition systems can not take that much of a reverse charge direction with out breaking down so I guess that would mean there are some diodes used some where.

My old 4.2 was regularly jump started (lived on the street), never had a problem frying stuff...

I've jump started mine millions of times and would do it again but I have fecked up a stereo jump starting it!!!

I have jumped mine loads of times (especially recently) too with no issues but guess thats just the way it goes sometimes.

I am no expert but I am guessing removing the leads as soon as possible would help as it will reduce two lots of charge going into the system!!

Optima Red Top, cost twice as much as a normal but last much longer and are able to withstand the vibration and heat unter a Cerb bonnet better than most.

Can't remember the exact model number you need to get the correct size and terminal positioning, sorry.

My local motor factors sorted me out with a battery. Had to give them the size and tell them what side the terminals were on and they got me a high amp battery for 70 squid. Trickle charger from halfords 25 pounds and say by by to starting problems ever again.
