Cerb tyre sizes

I have a nail in a front near the shoulder and will need a new tyre.

1st question, I'm thinking of chaning both fronts. I wouldn't on a normal car, but due to the nature of the cerb it seems sensible. The good tyre has about 60% wear left. Am I right, or am I being over-cautious?

2ns question, I have spiders with 225/35x18. Is it possible to put a marginally wider tyre on, say 230/235, or would that foul the wheel arch?

235's should fit no problem, Although with the spiders you may need to fit some stop bumps (or what ever they are called).

i have 235/40/18 on the front of mine with the steering stops and have had no problems HTH

235 40 18 can be a prob sometimes despite stop locks.

If you are replacing with the same make, type, compound and size then you can perfectly safely replace just the one. Any differences at all and replace the axle set.

I wouldnt replace just one unless the retained tyre was hardly worn.

I'd just replace the bad one.

Also keep in mind that if you go wider than the 225 on the front you may make the front end twitchy on road surfaces that aren't glass-smooth (I found out the hard way )

I agree, the rearmost edge of the tyre might touch the bodywork. 225/40/18 is a good size, fits the rim better, gives a bit more protection from buckling and is easier to find than the 35 series.

Mine came to me with 225/35 R18 on the front and 255/35 R18 on the back and if it helps they are

Front: Falken FK452 225/35ZR18 87Y
Back: Falken FK452 255/35ZR18 94Y

Seem to work quite fine but definitely have a fairly firm ride (guessing the 18" spiders plus thin tires would make that happen) :-)

(I didn't know this but the Z rating means they are good to 300 km/h which if the Cerb ever got close to would be interesting!! http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.js... )

i seem to remember hearing that the reason tvr used 225/35/18 on the front was because 235/35/18 are unobtainable,the 225 tyre does not fit the rim correctly and the 40 profile has a little more give IMO.
Anyway what i found was if i lower the car slightly(yes lower) and fit lock stops it does not rub the only drawback is i now have the turning circle of a shell tanker also i gave it a little more camber on the rear and stiffend the dampers up a tad the ride is hard but then if i wanted a soft ride id have got a merc ive had no tram lineing either the car now grips and turns in so well!!

Well, a bit more research later....

225/35/18 and 235/40/18 seem popular choices. I could not find a 235/35 variant.

Price difference is negligible, I can get each delivered for about £100 (inc VAT) per tyre, but then there is fitting to add on (Falken 452's).

Decisions, decisions....

Just caught the edge of one of my rears, they have only done 4k miles, gut feeling is to change both, but do I really need to?
