There's a pond in my V8!

Hi All,
I've been attempting to trace a coolant leak on my AJP 4.2 V8. Whilst I had the car warming up I noticed tiny spots of water all over the top of the engine and the passenger side front wing, having looked up to check that it wasn't raining I saw that it was being 'flicked' up by the alternator belt. Looking more closely I could see a large puddle of water sitting in the 'vee' of the engine block. My car lives outside on a slightly forward sloping driveway so once I'd satisfied myself that this wasn't the coolant leak (it was too much water for the problem I've been having) I assumed it was water (rain, or from washing) that had run off the screen, through the scuttle and landed on top of the engine.
Has anyone else ever noticed this, and if so is it something I should worry about?

Mine doesn't live outside but does get used in nearly all weathers. I've had water on the engine after parking up in damp weather, which usually causes a cloud of steam to come from under the bonnet.
I'd get in there with some kitchen tissue and mop it all up and monitor it.
If your car lives outdoors, what about something like a carcoon

Bud if you or anyone on here want one of these i have one.i bought it for 200 folding ones when we bought wifeys z3 last year and we have never put it up.Its made from canvas and easily folds up and down.Yours for 150 squid.you will need a big van to collect it tho.by the way this one was over 600 new.Hope this helps my damp little buddies;)

Thanks for the replies. After takining it out for a run yesterday all of the 'pond' seemed to have evaporated, without a significant drop in the levels of any other fluids. I am therefore satisfied that this was just standing water that had come from cleaning/washing/melting snow.......
Hopefully the car wont be living outdoors for much longer, I'm exploring a few storage options! In the meantime I think I might make up some kind of scuttle cover panel to reduce this issue while it's outdoors. I think a 'remove before flight' tag might be required!
