I'm fitting a set of protech shocks tomorrow and noticed they don't seem to have the usual lock nuts on the bottom adjustable spring platform. Is this normal, if so how do they maintain the ride height without the bottom spring mount riding up or down the thread over time.

Asked the same question when I put a set of Protechs on my Sylva Striker 3 years back. Not necessary, was the answer, and this has proved accurate, despite my misgivings at the time.

in theory the spring should put tension on the threaded adjustment ring stopping it turning. like a spring washer

Thanks chaps. I now feel much more confident to just bolt them on and not worry about it.

I fitted mine about a year ago and thought the same.

but a year on and no problems to report.

just had the cerb corner weighted and 4 wheel alined at raceproved. What a differance its made, it handles really well and gives alot more confidence going round bends

Hmmm, I must be very unlucky. I put them on a week ago and set the rears at 375mm from the wheel centre. This morning the tyres were scuffing so I just went out with my tape measure and they are now at 350mm. Can't say for sure if things have just "settled" or if the seats have wound down. I'll adjust them again at the weekend and see what happens.

Hi John

off topic but have you got your cerb running with the Turbo's on? Did you use my inlets?

Might be an idea to measure the amount of exposed thread each time ???

the turbo engine is close to running, same old problem though the customers that fund it take so much time that it never gets finished. I bought 2 plenums and a set of 4.2 bodies to make my own intakes similar to yours but still using the original 4.2 throttle plates. Got it all tigged up then got stuck in germany for weeks. Got to do some work on the cerb then will really put some time into ajp turbo project.

It will be worth waiting for and will make the "just fit an LS" folks appreciate sticking with British engineering rather than polluting a Blackpool rocket with yankee low tech.
