Is this normal, or is this really bad?

Looks like the car will need to get Waxoyled too at the coming service.

Boy does the car look georgous on the outside, but get that camera out at night and take flash pictures of underneath and the nightmare comes to haunt, all those pipes hanging around... just clipped here and there... I've heard of trying to save weight, but this is disgusting... and the rust is just everywhere.... I thought the spaceframe was rust protected and epoxy coated or something... ????

Any recommendations apart from Waxoiling the damn thing.... ???

The powder coating wears off, the rust will only be surface rust on your car, not serious (or shouldn't be). I'm afraid they all do that...etc...

Waxoyling will help but will need to be renewed in places especially around the chassis area near the exhaust where it gets hot.

True.

I've been driving these babies for a few years now, and I've never really looked underneath... but its really discouraging... why didnt they put some guttering around, and some vented panels round the rear, thin sheets of aluminum would have done the trick... but just leave it bare like that... its not doing it justice is it.... my poor baby must be feeling every damn grit and water splash all over its internals....

oh well, more ideas come to mind on how to improve on this design flaw... or maybe intention (money pinching *****)....

What about, waxoiling it and then covering the pipes with the likes of exhaust putty or something similar to add an extra layer of protection... sound idea?

Eeee people t'day don't know t'meaning o't'rust!!

You want to try getting up in the morning and freeing a set ot 30 year old headlight bowls and then notice huge flakes of panelling crumbing away from shock towers, that's rust man!!!

Spray it in waxoyl and pretend you never saw it, it's the only way!!!

Wow, that's in really good condition. I wish mine looked that good.

The bad thing is I'm not being sarcastic or anything.

Mine is in for waxoyl at the mo and hopefully they will take off a good few kilos of rust and get the weight down again.

Another trouble area is under the front engine cover especially if you have had leaks. Normal recommendation is to clean, paint and then waxoyl. I used to use Hammerite which is still pretty good but have been using POR15 from Frost Automotive and have been very pleased with the results.

There is a chassis FAQ/sample chapter on my website. It is focussed on the S series but most of the data is equally applicable to the Cerbera.
