Yeah, so I chopped the dim/dip wire, now I have no lights!

Installed HIDs some time back and following various threads (like this - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... ) I chopped the second from left red with black striped wire and ended up with no dipped beam? Just the 501 sidelights.

Have recconnected the wire and the light are back, though with the same issue as before where dipped come on with sidelights.

What happened there?!

Any ideas? Going to see if I can take a look today.

There are 3 pins going to the bulb/ballast, is one of these 9v? if so, can I just chop this for each ballast?

No there are only 2 wires, one is earth, the other gets 7v or 12v.
There are two black boxes - snip the wire to the dim/dip box not the lighting control box. Not sure what else to suggest really.

So one of the pins is left redundant as h4 bulbs have 3pins?
It's 100% the dim/dip box. Will get a pic later, but its definitely the red with black stripe wire I've chopped (and now rejoined)

All I can think is maybe only the 7v signal is working amd the 12v signal has never worked, thus the really bad performance from the filaments bulbs. ? And why I get no dipped beam without the dim dip?

There is no need to cut the wire. There is another smaller, flimsy box the wire goes into attached by a spade connector, just unplug it from that box.

Either way, when the circuit is broken the dipped beam doesn't work. Will have to wait for next weekend for further investigation now anyway

Ah you have H4s, in that case one is earth, one is dipped beam (7v or 12v) and the other is main beam, so you can't disconnect one.
