too much wheel spin

It depends on your road speed, the diff on the 4.5s works a bit like a clutch in an automatic. The faster the whole unit is spinning the more it locks the diff, you have to be doing about 70 for it to really work fully. This is part of the reason people get caught out changing lanes on the motorway this time of year.
So if you are going quite slowly & plant our right foot it will just spin up the inside wheel & do nothing else obvious (it actually transmits more torque to the other wheel, but it will never spin the other wheel at lower speeds), unlike a normal plate type LSD that will lock up the more you spin the wheel.
Kind of a pain in the ass really, but useful when you give it beans out of a junction curse it for not going sideways then realise there was a police car there all the time so it’s just as well you didn’t!

Have you checked the tyre pressures? Odd question perhaps, but I used to get loads of wheelspin pulling away at times and it was always low tyre pressures.
They were old tyres on the car when I bought it but loads of tread, air was leaking through the rubber
new set of tyres later and I've not had the problem since.
