Handbrake help please!

In the process of removing all the rear wishbones and hubs to change the bushes and have a general tidy of the chassis...

On removing the drivers handbrake shoes the 2 pins that hold them in place have sheered, one inside and one with a bit sticking out. Is it possible to drill them out? Or does anyone have any other top tips for removing them? Really don't want to have to buy an entire hub for 2 little pins!

Also, my handbrake cable is looking a bit rubbish, is this off anything or do I need to get the one from racing green etc..

Can you post a pic of what is broken?

Somehow I think the mental picture I have is different to what you mean.

I know the shoes, etc are Peugeot items so perhaps the cable is also off the same.

A helpful auto-factors may be able to help you see if you can match it.

The pin SHOULD look like this, but I guess over the years its seized in, Although Im a bit annoyed this hasn't been picked up sooner on a serving

On a side note, do I just remove the 3 allen bolts at the back to remove the wheel bearing assembly?

Assuming you have removed the drive shaft the three cap head screws are inside the hub carrier and hold both the hub and brake back plate.

Once you have the back plate in your hands you will be able to knock the broken pin through the plate. Use a small pin punch and knock it through the plate from the handbrake shoe side. Be carefull as the back plate can be corroded and a little brittle.

Got new pin kit from partco by taking in the one good pin I had left. Can't remember what its from though. On reassembling had to clean up the holes with a needle file, they are a sort of keyhole shape, and used plenty of copper grease. Been apart since without a problem.

Cheers Rich... Much appreciated, feel I may have ballsed up a little as i removed the drive shaft by removing the back 6 allen bolts NOT the centre nut.... A vice and padding may be needed!

I did that too, took the whole rear upright off before thinking about the big nut! I fitted one of the front discs (as they are bigger), then clamped that in a wood work vice & the nut came off fine. I though it would cause me a lot more trouble. It came off so easily I should think the rear discs would do if you don’t have the front in bits too.

You can just knock those little pins through, they'll just drop out the back. Clever trevor do a handbrake repair kit which is worth getting, new pins and springs and Brake shoe springs.
The Handbrake cable is in 2 Parts - a short part about 50cm long from the H'brake lever to a U bracket, and another longer cable that goes from the hubs and loops around the aforementioned 'U bracket'.

Cheers guys, have a full rebuild kit including all springs and adjusters etc Just need to get myself a rear set handbrake cable.

Out of interest, has anyone done a hydraulic conversion linked into the rear discs?
