Hi all,

I have just removed the rear suspension to clean it all up etc and have noticed a crack right across the top of one of the dampers, above where the top bolt goes through.
I am sure I have read on here before about other people with a similar issue but I cant find anything on the search.
Was there not a manufacturing fault with a certain batch of Gaz Golds a couple of years ago?

Cheers, Ric.

It happens a lot so I understand.

Replace all of them and pref not with Gaz, leak and squeek is their reputation.

Nitrons seem to offer the best price/performance ratio.

I have just spoken with them, they say they had an issue with oversized bushes for a while, causing a lot of stress etc, they now use a bearing in there.

Anyway they are sending a new full set of gaz gold pros out.

Spot on customer service to be fair.

Why do they seem to have a bad rep, I have had them on mine for years with absolutely no probs. Another well know Pher also has them, and you wouldn't catch him round a track. Is it just a case of people relaying what they have heard without any first hand knowledge. Everyone seems to wax lyrical about nitrons, no doubt they are good, but with a price tag to go with them. The way most people drive their cars they really woudn't notice the difference.

Poor old Gaz do seem to get a panning on here.

No one is denying the old Gaz Golds with the oversized bushes and the faulty valve spring weren't a problem, Gaz are the first to admit it.

The truth is Gaz knew they had to make 100% sure the new Gaz Gold Pros solved the issues or they would never recover their reputation.

In a way the customer did the development work, quite rightly that left a lot of people cheesed off.

I have had a set of the revised Gaz Gold Pros on my car for the last 4,000 miles with absolutely no squeaks or leaks.

I am under no illusion; they are certainly not Nitrons, but I didn't pay Nitron money either.

I doubt high52kojak will be disappointed with his new set of Gaz Gold Pros, if anything my set just seemed to improve during the first 2,000 miles as the springs settled.

Add a full set of the Leven rose joined drop links then get a proper geo done and you will have a very nice handling Tiv on your hands.

So far, in my experience the Gaz Gold Pros have proved to be well worth the money.

Perhaps its time to put the past behind us and support a British company that seems to be trying to do the right thing by their existing customers.

In a recession we should all be supporting our domestic manufacturing sector, it certainly seems a safer bet than the money lending nonsense we relied on so heavily over the last 20 years.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I'm after some info. About to take delivery of a set of Gaz Golds & was looking for some base settings....would rather get them (sort off) set up in the vice rather than loose too much skin off my knuckles when fitted. I want it set up quite firm but want to keep my fillings!!....the roads up here in Aberdeenshire are in sh*t state at the moment!! Would someone with this kind of set-up be so kind as to let me know how much threads (in mm) are showing below the lock nut on the preload (front & back) and how many clicks out on the damping (front & back).

Many thanks in advance

Mike

Mine were set up at the Gaz factory at 12 all round.

I've subsequently settled on 13 front & 14 rear which suits me.

The car is significantly more stable at speed since I fitted the Gaz Gold Pros.

The biggest handling improvement by far were the full set of Leven drop links that I fitted in two hours & cost me £170.00.

These drop links seemed to tie the whole package together and turned my car from a rapid truck into a nice handling sports car.

Mind you if you had seen my old drop links its not hard to see why.

I like this, I have to say that I have done a lot of reading up on Gaz and there shocks, read the whole issue with the Gold's etc.

And you know what? The way they have dealt with this issue has, if anything made me lean towards using them when I need knew shocks smile.
