I need to replace my Toyo Proxes 255/35/ZR18 90Y (and the fronts at some stage). Does anyone know a stockist? Also, anyone know a good alternative for daily use ?
Thanks

stockists = camskill, blackcircles, mytyres

Choice = Toyos again, goodyear f1a's, michelin ps2/3 or ...falkens

Just take your choice of prime tyres because you can't scrimp on this. They are all within a squeek of each other. There is no big difference between the first 3 from my experience. Good tyres cost a bit for a reason so don't listen to "X" driver saying their Audi or Peugeot works well on ...... lesser tyres.

After having Toyos I now have GYA's on back and MPS2 on front and all feels good. Some Marangoni zetas on front were not as good, a bit vague and understeery. No experience of falkens however. This is what I know of tyres on a Cerb.

Original fitment was Bridghestone SO2 PP, a most capable all round performer, but they were superceded by the SO3, a lump of dogsh!t which were only average in the dry but lousy in the wet. Many of us went the Toyo route T1R's and T1'S before they dropped them only to revise them a few years later.

I'm currently on my Fourth set of T1R's which I use for general hoonage and have another set of 888's which I break out in Summer when in 'Hero mode'

You can't go wrong with Toyo!

I run Good years Eagle F1's used the Gs-d3 pattern for years , now moved to the aysmetric as they get even better reviews than the old v pattern. cant comment on them yet as i have not driven on them.

But the GS-D3 is a great tyre.

I've found T1Rs to be excellent both in 17" & 18" for grip in the dry and pretty reasonable in the wet considering the beast they are trying to keep traction for. In my experience I've found most small tyre places will order these in for you if they don't stock them.

I have found then a bit scary when very cold and the road has that sparkle to it, but having run proper winter tyres on the Passat over this winter I think I've been lulled into a false sense of security as they grip incredibly well on ungritted roads and just love the snow. If someone made a decent winter tyre in the right sizes I'd consider another set of wheels and run them November to March.

I dealt with Camskill again last week and they tell me Toyo are discontinuing the T1-R Proxes at least in 255/35x18 size. Camskill now stock the T1-Sport Proxes, not sure how these compare to the R's, other than differant tread pattern, I'll let you know.
I've dealt with Camskill for years, top quality service, very competative tyre prices and sensible delivery rates (£2.49 per tyre)

Simon

I've got T1-Rs on the Cerb which I like. however, I have just fitted some Hankook RS2s to my daily driver, an Integra Type-R, which I love. They are a stickier tyre than most road tyres (200 treadwear) but not as extreme as Toyo 888s. They really suit the Integra and I will definitely be putting a set on the Cerb when the time comes.

The only issue with them is that the rears arew only available in 265/35/18 - but that's what I have on my SP12s anyway with no issues.

I really wouldn't waste my time with Falkens. They are OK when brand new (but no more) and then go off quickly with age. Not a good thing with a Cerb...

I've run both Eagle F1's and T1-Rs and whilst both display similar characteristics and both suit the cars well, the T1-R has the edge - more progressive breakaway and inspire a bit more confidence in the dry.

That said, I put on some R888's last year for a track day and never took them off - they're in a completely different league to both of the above tyres, will take a surprising amount of mileage, ride well and are very good in the wet (just be careful on standing water). Next time I think I will go for the R1-R's though - same compound as the R-888 but a few more cuts to deal with standing water a bit better.

Quick question for you Nick what eagle F1's did you run was it the V pattern (gs-d3)or the new Aysmetric? just wondering what to expect with Aysmetrics.

Cheers Scotty

I think they were the V-pattern ones and felt pretty similar to the Toyos, but felt like they were maybe a slightly harder compound. I ran both types of tyre on a Nissan 200SX S14a I used to have as well and again I prefered the Toyos. Can't really put my finger on exactly why but they just seem to suit my driving style.

I THINK the 225 GY's look less stretched on the fronts than the same Toyos? (Or am I wrong??)

I've just bought s set of Toyo T1-Sports to replace the T1-R's on the front of my Cerbera. I bought these directly from Toyo, because as a member of the Goodwood Road Racing Club, I get a reasonable discount. Toyo have just had a shipment of the 225/35/18's arrive in the country but I suspect they may whistle out the door as distributors become aware. Only ever had Toyo's on the Cerbera and have always really liked them so can't comment on the respective characteristics of other brands.

How do you go about buying them directly?

Also - what is the choice with Toyos? Camskill have T1-S's for the rear but T1-R's and T1-S's for the front (225 35). The T1R's are out of stock (and cheaper).
They also have 225 40 T1S' (I think they are even cheaper).

So I think I might go for T1S' for front and back but with 225 40 at the front.

I have had 225/40/18 Toyo T1-Rs on the front of the T350 since they came out. That extra 5% profile (225/40 vs. 225/35) just gives that little extra cushioning which makes a noticeable improvement for good old British roads imho.

I always order over the internet and pay for fitment at garage of choice - seems by far the cheapest method.

Hope that Helps.

Hi Gazzab, I just called Toyo (01933 411144), I believe they will sell directly to the public but for me I just quoted my GRRC Membership Number. They insist on delivering to a business address but that was simple as Jason at Scole Engineering is going to replace the originals for me.

I had previously tried my usual supplier but he couldn't source Toyo's anywhere in the country and coincidentally I then got the details of the offer courtesy of the GRRC.

Btw the very nice lady at Toyo said that they no longer make the T1-R's.

sorry to resurrect this thread, however Ive got SO3s all round and damaged a rear at the weekend so need to replace it. ITs eems that looking at these threads the S)3s vary from being described as dogsh** to awful at best.

With this in mind im now looking at replacing the rears to Toyos. Whats the best for all weather road perfromace and although I would like to change all 4 , funds wont permit at present so will I be OK with Toyos ont he back for a bit with the SO3s on the front?

thanks
